My husband Bill, purchased this quilt on Ebay for a rather unscrupulous lady who referenced an 'identical' quilt that had sold previously for over $1000. Hers she said was in the closet and she 'thought' that it had been made by a relative of hers. She described the quilt in detail - only problem was she left out the details about the stitching. The quilt had been 'basted' - very nicely - but basted nonetheless - by someone who thought that everywhere that there was a blue dot, they should stitch. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed to see that the workmanship in this quilt was so poor. The odd thing was, the applique was lovely. Beautiful, tiny stitches on every flower, leaf and stem. I thought it was likely that someone who 'knew' what they were doing had started the project but was unable to finish. Then someone who 'thought' they knew what they were doing attempted to finish the project. Obviously they didn't know anything about quilting. The backing was also poorly done, pieced together from some sort of synthetics...it was a mess. And such a lovely quilt (otherwise). Interestingly the binding was put on nicely as well. Too bad this quilt couldn't talk!

I decided to undertake a resurection of sorts - took the quilt apart - ripped out every stitch - which since they were 'basted' wasn't much of a task. Discarded that awful backing and polyester batting.

Putting it back together Purchased a new 90" backing of quality fabric. A new all white Warm & Natural batting - pinning it all together and the hand quilting began. That was in 2005.

Here are photos of the finished quilt. I'm still 'thinking' about a label to add to this quilt.

I finished this quilt in May, 2007 - I was recovering from a broken heel and it was nice to have something like this to work on while I rested my foot.
