These pictures are JPEGs. I apologize for those of you with old browsers that can't display JPEG, but I can't afford the disk space for GIFs, and I think JPEG does a better job with photos, anyway.
If the images look dark, it's the fault of your client (Netscape, Mosaic, etc.) for not properly "gamma correcting" the images. Bug the vendors to fix it.
