- Created by the founder of the Michigan chapter of the
Association for Death
Education and Counseling, Griefnet provides a valuable compilation of
listings of resources related to death, bereavement, and major loss.
Griefnet's scope includes general bereavement, adoption loss, suicide and
homicide, caregivers and hospice resources, and many categories of chronic
illness and physical loss. Most of the listings are addresses and phone
numbers of support groups and individual professionals, subdivided
geographically with an emphasis on Michigan; some Internet resources are included. A short annotated bibliography is also available, as are 13 articles in their entirety. The gopher also includes a memorials section and the beginnings of a poetry directory.

- A forum for people coping with various special needs situations, including disabilities and chronic disease.
- 91 current questions and answers on various topics, including living with Epstein-Barr and computers for low vision. The systems operator will point people to appropriate sections of the Freenet for help when necessary.

- For parents of children with cerebral palsy, sensory integrative problems, or other developmental delays.
- List participants are mothers and fathers of developmentally challenged children, as well as several therapists and other professionals. The listowner says in the list welcome message, "We parents really enjoy this list because we can discuss our children's accomplishments and defeats and know that the audience includes others who know what we are going through." Topics include interacting with school officials, feeding, various therapies, and stresses of parenting special children. Lots of personal stories; little unrelated chatter. Occasional strong disagreements, but these are exceptions to the generally supportive nature of the list.

- A list of caregivers support groups in and around Champaign County, Illinois, prepared by the staff of the Self-Help Center at Family Services.
- Four groups are listed by county and include resources for "significant others of people with chronic illness" and other caregivers of the ill or aging. The purposes of the groups, names, addresses, and phone numbers are provided.

- This WWW page lists and provides links to Usenet newsgroups that deal with psychology or serve as support groups. It lists the name and a description of a few words for each group, and indicates whether or not the group is moderated. The Pointer covers not only emotional support for physical illness and grieving, but also mood disorders, quitting smoking, shyness, and adoption, among many others. Updated weekly, and posted every two weeks to various support newsgroups.
