Reader comments:
This is part of my major reread catagory. I love most of her books. Just couldn't get into the mythology stuff thought. I have been looking for a copy of Winter Fire. I have all of her medival period stuff. Her writting is just wonderful! (R.C., 4-26-98) Anything by Roberta Gellis is terrific! I have learned more history reading her novels than in any history class. She makes history come alive by focusing on how it affected the day to day lives of her characters. I began with _Bond of Blood_ in the early 70's and have all of her historicals --including the Greek stories, which add life to the myths we all grew up loving. Since these ancient Greek stories are the "archetypes" for our novels today, how could we not love their retelling? A wonderful author! (D.R., 3-20-98) Anything by Roberta Gellis is terrific! I love all her books & read every one I can get. I have had to buy them several times, because I loaned them out & never got them back. Now I don't loan them anymore. I read them once or twice a year. Am still trying to find all she has written. (have even answered ?s on gameshows correctly because of her accuracy!) Thanks! CS (C.S., 2-26-98) I love her characters and the way she presents the women of Roselynde. They are truly the way women should be. Her men are totally adorable and heroic and I love their interaction. My kingdom for just one with their honor and class!! (L.J., 5-19-97) I started reading Roberta Gellis with Bon of Bood back in the 60's. No one can pull you into a story like she can! No one can pull you into a story faster that she can. (J.H., 4-7-97) I love all of Roberta Gellis's books, and yes "even" the ones based on Greek myths. The world building she does in that series is wonderful! And, as usual, her research is impeccable. All her books deserve a 5, including the ones on the Greek myths. She really knows how to blend genres, but with all her ability, I should have known she would have pulled it off so very well. It's refreshing to read someone's books who knows both the SF/Fantasy genre and Romance genre so well. (K.E.H., 1-15-97) I loved this series. I don't have copies of Alinor and Roselynde, as they were loaned to me after they were already out of print, and I've never been able to find them, used or new. Thank heavens they're reprinted! (F.G., 11-25-96) I love all of Ms. Gellis's medieval novels, I scour the used bookstores for copies! This is the book that started my obsession- I read it again and again. It gets the highest rating, even though it is not even as good as some of her earlier series, or even the rest of the books in this Roselynde series! BUT, I HATE HER NEW BOOKS- They deal with Greek Myths and are STINKO! Stick with her several medievel series- YOU CAN'T GO WRONG! (J.K., 10-1-96) I have read this series over and over mainly because of the historical time period. (L.M., 12-11-95) I really enjoyed this book. I wish she would write again. I have all of her books and reread them once a year. She has been one of my favorite writers since The Wolf and The Dove days (197?). I rate her up with Jude Deveraux and Amanda Quick. Enjoy a good read. (S.H., 12-6-95) I enjoyed this book and am now reading Alinor, however it did take me a while to get "into" it. It took a little more time to get into the time period even though I found it extremely interesting. Am looking forward to Gellis' other books. (S.R., 11-29-95) Really great series of books. This in particular, joining in the Crusades was very interesting. Great amount of true historical facts. (E.W., 11-12-95) I read this entire series a number of years ago but it is one of my favorites as it follows Alinor and her family through the years. It gives great historical perspective to a time period I knew nothing about. (S.O., 10-23-95) I read this book several years ago and have enjoyed reading it time and again. (S.C., 8-29-95)
