Reader comments:
Oh if this wasn't one of the funniest books I've ever read 3X, I don't know what is. I still smile when I think back to it! (L.W., 5-19-98) This book was absolutely, terrifically, wonderfully fabulous! i bought it one day and finished it the next! i love all of her other historical romances as well, (esp. Mischief). anyone says otherwise is obviously NOT a reader of romance. (0., 1-16-98) This was by far my favorite book. I laughed and I cried. I hope to see other books in this time setting. I have read everyone of her books and I would love to see more. (T.C., 1-6-98) My favorite Amanda Quick book. She has non perfect people who find a perfect love. (T.C., 5-3-97) I agree with L.R.'s comment that when JAK finds a phrase she likes, she continues to use it throughout the book ad nauseam. In her contemporaries, it's usually the phrase "Good Grief!", uttered time and again by the heroine. (L.H., 5-1-97) I enjoyed this one a lot. Any book that makes me all teary eyed is great, and I cried at this one. Of course, maybe I was crying because I will never meet any kind of man like the ones that I find in between the pages of a book. (P.D., 4-28-97) When writing as Quick JAK has a tendency to think up one catch phrase per book and repeat it ad nauseam throughout. Also just because her heroines are British does not mean they should say 'bloody this' and bloody that' every two pages. It is a complete anachronism, not to mention offensive! (L.R., 4-25-97) This book does not disappoint. It was definitely worth the wait. It is just not fair how they put the first chapter of her new book in the back of the one you are just finishing. I can't wait for Mischief. (C.C., 4-16-97) I love all of her books. this is one of my all time favorites! (L.M., 4-10-97) I love to read all her books. The only hard cover books I buy automatically are Jaynes's and Julie Garwood's (J.K., 3-21-97) I have every Amanda Quick book written and its still not enough! This and Mystique are her best but any one of her books is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. While its true her plots follow the same storyline, its one that works for me. Keep 'em coming! (M.R., 1-28-97) I have two kids and a very busy life - but I relax and can become someone else for awhile by reading romance novels. My favorite author is Amanda Quick and I wouldn't part with any of her books and I have all of them. (D.N., 1-13-97) I was somewhat disappointed with this book. I thought it was not up to snuf compaired to the other Amanda Quick books which I enjoyed very much. (C.G.I., 12-4-96) I first began reading Jayne Ann Krentz through the recommendation of another author which was displayed on the cover of Krentz's "Family Man." I liked it so much that I bought more of the Krenz books and subsequently backtracked to her pseudonyms, James, Castle, Glass, Quick, etc. I have kept a few of the Castle, James, and many of the Krentz books but have gotten rid of all the ones that I wanted to throw across the room,(more than a few). Let me clarify with regard to some of the earlier James books I sometimes felt that these women were all "going to be caught" or worse "come to heel" by the end of the book. I had a real problem with that.I also felt sometimes that these women were set up as women who were thought as kind of the outsiders or the wildcards by their family and thus needed to be "tamed" by their family's accepted "Hero" who just happened to be up to the task. That bothered me too. Her contemporary Krentz books are pretty good if you overlook a key element in the Krentz and Quick books which is that each Line of Books is the SAME STORY over and over and over again!! She is a grrrreat writer! But sometimes it would be nice to get an entirely new story and new framework and new characters with new conflicts. I recommend Family Man, Wildest Hearts, and Absolutely Positively (although all are undeniably similar in character and conflict) and "Gift of Love" and "Gift of Fire" which had an intriguing link between the characters as well as a fascinating, hidden talent provided for the Hero. (B.Q., 9-22-96) As a UCSC graduate, I am happy to see that one of my fellow alumnus(?) has "made it"! I find her plots to be very modern which is, in way, a positive thing. In another sense, it seems entirely inappropriate and out of place. Also, her heroines tend to be too cutesy which gets tiresome after a while. However, this can be said about most romance writers. Overall, I find it lacking substance. (J.K., 8-20-96) First book by Amanda Quick I read. I enjoyed it very much and I had to read more of her books. Great Read!!! (D.H., 6-20-96) I buy any book that you write. I can't wait to read the one coming out in July. Sopme are better than others but I love them all. You are my favorite author. I'm not into the futuristic-style books though.I'm just delighted that I get a chance to write to you. (J.K., 6-8-96) This was one of Quick's more readable books, but still no great shakes. Quick's plots are generally too frothy, and her tone too contemporary, for my taste in Regency/historicals, though she does often display a good sense of humor. Her heroines also tend to be too silly or innocent; title here promised a more experienced heroine than book actually contains. Pronunciation should be if-uh-juh-NIE(long I sound)-uh, if it's same as Agamemnon's daughter, though why a parent would name a child after the daughter sacrificed at start of Trojan Wars is beyond me. (E.P., 5-28-96) Mistress is THE book that turned me on to Amanda Quick. The character's name certainly threw me and I kept trying to nickname her, which never worked Nevertheless, Mistress was powerfully written with a strong female character at the focal point! Dynamic! (T.G., 5-23-96) Although the reader may spend half her time trying to figure out how to pronounce "Iphiginia", the plot itself is excellent, and the characters (especially Marcus!) incredibly appealing. (A.L., 5-18-96) The characters are human, funny and original. In fact, Amanda Quick is an Original! I have read every book and wouldn't part with them for the world. (M.S., 5-15-96) I loved this book I couldn't put it down I read it in about 2 hours. I have every book Amanda Quick has written and look forward to reading Mischief when it comes out. (J.H., 5-15-96) I work in a public library where historical romance is appreciated. Amanda Quick's name always brings cheers from our patrons. We look forward to her next publication, Mischief. (R.R., 5-13-96) I just finished this book, I loved it, I ran out and got all of her other books. I should be done by dinner. (K.S., 5-12-96) One of my faves by Quick. Great story, great characters, sensual read. (D.N., 5-12-96) I recommend all of A. Quick's books to my customers at our local used book store. I like her bits of humor and I especially like the way her heroine and hero interact. (H.M.S., 4-30-96) great book!!!!! (B.D., 4-26-96) I have read everything by Amanda Quick, and I have never been disappointed -- upbeat, energetic, genuine characters and plots with humor and twists without resorting to forced love/hate scenarios. She has never written a bad book, and Mistress is one of her best. I am charmed by these books and keep them all. (M.P., 4-17-96) This is a good one from A. Quick. Laughed outloud in a few places and she kept the pace moving. (E.R., 4-16-96)
