Reader comments:
Patricia Veryan is the best of any Regency Author I have ever read. Her sense of humor is so much fun. I loved Love Alters Not. Lanterns is a good read--and by the way--Diccon may be a little too nice--but look at August Falcon in "The Jewelled Men"--I don't think Veryan has lost her touch yet:) (N.G., 4-23-98) I enjoyed this book by P.V immensley, but still believe that her best series is that of the Jeweled Men especially Mandarin of Mayfair. However P.V. has a gift for creating such 3-D characters that remain in one's memory long after the book is finished. She is a marvelous writer. (M.J., 2-22-98) Patricia Veryan is a terrific author. That said, I have to say I loved the Golden Chronicles, and enjoyed The Jeweled Men, BUT...does anyone else think her heroes are getting a little wimpy, or too PC, or just need a shot of testosterone? (Compare Quentin in "Practice to Deceive" with Dicken in "Lanterns". Quentin is irresistable - brave, honorable, but also HOT BLOODED. Veryan's plots are still marvelous, and her characterizations wonderful, but her guys are getting just too polite for me. It's one thing if it's supposed to be part of their personality (shy, or don't think they are attractive to women), but I feel like this has been an "across the board decision" on the author's part to make ALL her heroes a tad too respectful toward their women. A little worship is good, but barely leashed sexuality is also great! (N.Z., 2-18-98) I love Patricia Veryan! My favorite is "The Dedicated Villian" - how could you not love Roland Fairleigh Maitheson? I'm constantly looking for the latest book to come out. I know it will be great reading. (M.C.B., 5-22-97) Make Veryan available over the book counter in Australia or I threaten immediate retaliation!!!! No, but I am definately BEGGING! Oh to only Borrow and not Own, is a terrible experience! (S.D. 5-18-97) (S.R., 5-18-97) Veryan is a wonderful writer and her books are absolutely fantastic to read! Only wish they were available in Australia, other than thru the library! (S.D., 5-18-97) Patricia is my favorite author. I have all of her books. For anyone looking to get more of her books, contact her fan club at 16809 188th Ave. NE, Woodinville, WA 98072-9171. I completed my collection by buying through their "Extras for Sale" page. (B.W., 4-21-97) Have all of the Golden Chronicles and most of her books. Reread them evey year of so - still interesting and intriguing. Love each in itself but really enjoy the interconnections between books in the series. All were purchased in the Ann Arbor area. Maybe one of the book stores can order the ones you've missed! Am presently looking for a place to order the older ones I have missed. You may also be able to locate some of them throught intra-library searches as I did. (K.B., 4-16-97) Ms. Veryan is one of my favorite authors, and this title one of her best. She is very adept at making her characters come alive, & her research of the period is in depth. I've read every one of her books and anticipate the next one. Grouping her books in series gives us time for learning who's who & for enjoying each personality..even the "bad guys". (C.F., 3-30-97) One of my favorites in the Golden Chronicles, but it seems to be one of the hardest to get a hold of. I check out all her books from the library and reread them each summer. (A.M., 3-24-97) In a word---a stupendous accomplishment of the Georgian genre!!! (A.P., 3-11-97) My favorite Veryan-book (P.K., 3-4-97) I have always enjoyed her subtle and not so subtle humor. Ihope others will enjoy it to. (G.G., 2-15-97) I have always enjoyed her subtle and not so subtle humor. Ihope others will enjoy it to. (G.G., 2-15-97) All of Patricia Veryan's books have romance, depth, suspense and humor. I think she is the best romance novelist around. I just wish her books were easier to find. (F.D., 1-14-97) Living in Australia, I have tracked down as many Patricia Veryan books as I possibly could. To my *greatest* disappointment, her books are not released here...so many are impossible to find. If any kind soul could find me a copy of the Dedicated Villain, and put me out of my misery (How can I possibly not know what happens to Roland Otton? Its *unbearable* to read only 4 of the Golden Chronicles) I will be very very grateful. Ofcourse, I will, being most grateful, recompense the cost. Thank you most kindly:). (S.N., 1-12-97) Her characterizations in all her books are superb. Each character is unique and therefore very real. I love everything she has written and wish all the old books would come back into print. They are all worth rereading! (A.J., 10-29-96) Another fun, entertaining story by one of the best regency/georgian authors around!! Humor, romance that overcomes, and great characters make for another wonderful read (T.K., 10-19-96) I love anything Patricia writes and this book is wonderful! She weaves her plots and stories so you can read them over and over again. She takes her readers on a tender romance journey again. (D.P., 10-16-96) Patricia Veryan does not know how to write a bad book. I especially like the way her marvelous characters follow through from book to book in each series. Each book is a treasure. (M.M., 9-27-96) As with all of Ms. Veryan's books, well-written and well-researched, with well-rounded characters. (K.E., 9-7-96)
