Reader comments:
I can't see where the vehemence against this book comes from. I like this book a lot. I've always like Catherine Coulter. She hasn't disappointed me. Trust me I have enough of her books to make my own library! (L.W., 5-19-98) Okay, this book, over all, was bad, but it was very funny. The hilarity of the situations and proposals, etc. was almost enough to like the book. Almost. (M.M., 5-9-98) This was the first C.C. book I'd ever read and that may be why I really liked it! I appreciate friction between main characters and heck knows, but we all like being dramatic! Easy women bore me to tears and I thought the realization scene was well timed. I know that sometimes CC repeats her plots yet this is her style, if you get tired of her, move on to another author and let those of us who love her writing continue reading her stories and loving them!!! (V.H., 2-6-98) Sorry to all those that did not like this book, but I loved it. (V.H., 2-6-98) this is a re-write of one of her old ones. the original was 100%better than this. This isn't the first one she has re-written and published under another or shorter name. Wish authors would let their good old ones stand, instead of revising just to add SEX. (E.M., 5-23-97) I've read C.C before, and for the most part, have enjoyed her books. But this one was really awful! (C.G.I., 5-21-97) My friend and I both enjoyed this book (we have a Regency pool - she buys them and I read them!) And we found this one a worthwhile read. (S.R., 5-18-97) This book has been dreadfully maligned! Of course it isn't up to the standards of a Veryan, but still, it was a very good book! I found it both humorous and pleasing, so read it a little less critically, please! (S.D., 5-18-97) After reading the comments of others about this book I felt I had to stand up for it. This may have a theme which Catherine Coulter writes alot about, I felt it was an amusing and heart warming story. I feel that anyone who enjoys Regency romances would enjoy this book. The trick is not to read so many of the same kind of book in a row. If you had read a modern romance and then picked up this book you would find it a refreshing and amusing change of pace. (A.P., 3-25-97) This was no worse than the usual "headstrong miss disguising herself as a dandy and bearing an unmitigated (but of course mistaken) loathing for the man who eventually teaches her passion after they fight a duel and he thus discovers her secret" piece of fluff. Not as loathsome as Coulter's Lord of Hawkfell Island, that is for sure. (P.D., 3-21-97) I might just have a soft spot for this book--after reading the other comments I'm thinking I should reread it--but I found the characters dramatic and moving, and the humour very remarkable for an Early Regency. I doubt the rewrite made any significant improvements, and may even have made it worse. (S.M., 3-17-97) This is one of those pretty average books that got re-issued after the author developed 'name recongition'. The only reason I finished this book is because I was reviewing it for a writing class. Needless to say this did not get a good review from me. I found the book boring, trite, and the characters unapealing. What are publishers thinking? They are doing the author, as well as themselves a no good by alienating readers with re-treaded stuff that was only average in the first place. (I.B., 2-7-97) ZING! This book went flying right across the room into my resale bag. If you haven't figured it out by now, I really hated this book! (C.G.I., 2-6-97)
