Reader comments:
I almost bought stock in vanilla after reading this book. I have all os your books and can not want for the next on. I have just one questions, where do you get those love scenes. I even purchased them in hardback also. can't wait for you to come to the atlanta area so that I can get all of my books aautographed. (B.R., 5-16-98) Indigo was recommended by a co-worker. I found it to be one of the most well-written novels that touches the very core of the heart. Any African American woman would delight herself with a Galeno. Most women are still looking for a Galeno. But we must remember, we are all a Hester; strong, loving, and courageous. Indigo will leave a mark on anyone who takes the time to fully read and digest this beautiful love story. The treat was not only gaining a better insight from a historical perspective, but also having the vicarious experience of a beautiful love affair. K.L.B. 4/25/98 . (C.B., 4-25-98) I loved this book. I look forward to reading others. Me and my mother are true fans!!! (A.M., 4-13-98) I tell anyone who loves to read abou this book. I borrowed a friends copy and am waiting to receive my very own. (A.D., 4-11-98) It was educational, and exciting wrapped together. It makes you wonder about how things really were back then!!! (F.T.M., 3-22-98) It was magnificent. I too am absolutely crazy about Galen. I think this book should be a movie. It has all of the ingredients to make a wonderful love story that is also educational. I read it twice before I could put the book down. I'm trying to convince my husband to read it (he has actually ready about 100 pages so far). I have introduced Beverly Jenkins to all of my friends, and I had the local African American book store to order extra books so that my friends can have somewhere to buy them. I have purchase all of the books except Vivid. I had to get it from the local library. I would love to have a copy of it for my own personal library. I loved the style of writing, and the history just blew me away. The books had me addicted. I read one Indigo in one day and was starving for another one as soon as I finished the second reading of that book. Thanks so much!!! When my daughter-in-law introduced me to Beverly Jenkins, I felt that I had been cheated all these years. I believe I have read all of her books now. If there were only four. If there are any more out there Ple-e-ease let me know. Cynthia (C.C., 2-27-98) Indigo, by far is the best romantic book that I have read to date, and I have read quite a few. Galen is the type of man, that I would love to run across and the scene where he quotes the Songs of Solomon is the most romantic scene, it bring tears to your eyes to think that somebody could be loved that much. To give another person their mother for Christmas is the ultimate gift. If by chance I should come across a Galen, I would consider myself to be the luckiest woman alive. Thank you Beverley for those books, I have read all four of them and each one is better than the last. Can't wait until your next book comes out. Hurry. My friend and I are trying to guess which story will be next. There are so many characters that could have their own story. (P.A.C., 2-21-98) I love this book and have read it several times. I found Galen to be the type of man that I would be interested in. I look forward to tell others about your books. Thanks!!!! (K.N.S., 2-6-98) Excellent book, This is the type of strong, loving and responsible Black men and women I want to read about. I have read all four books by Ms. Jenkins in two weeks. Please hurry up with your next novel. (B.F., 2-1-98) I absolutely loved this book and hated when it had to end. I read Night Song and felt the same way when I finished reading it. Galen Vachon had me obsessed, I could not wait to see what was going to happen next. I found myself sneaking every precious moment to open it up. My girfriend at work teased me because she said when I got quiet at my desk she knew I was engrossed with Galen. Beverly Jenkins book are the perfect appetizer for a marriage. When reading one of her books you find youself on fire and wanting to make your own Galen Vachon! Keep up the good work, and I am starting a collection of your novels. I am in search of Vivid and I will have all of your books and will be waiting patiently for the next one. (S.O., 5-22-97) Indigo was a wonderful book. The character seemed real and alive to me. You gracefully showed that African American can love each other. The history behind your books teaches the reader also. I am looking forward to your next book. I hope that you continue to be successful in your writer and hopefully become a mentor to some one who is beginning their career in writing (only because you are a great black woman writer). (T.A., 4-24-97) This is a great book, I really enjoyed reading it. I would reccomend it as one of the best historical novels. I learned a lot about Black history from reading this book.It is great to be educated and entertained at the same time. Keep up the good work. (M.B., 4-19-97) Galen makes you look at the black man in a different light. Confident, loving, determined, a man with a purpose and the mind to accomplish it. Such a man could only be drawn the the same type of strong woman, both of these characters kept me turning pages for eight straight hours until I had completed the book. (A sleepless night) Beverly, don't stop doing what you are doing. Learning about African American history and learning to love the African American male at the same time is just more that any one reader deserves in book. (S.L., 4-16-97) I loved the story and characters, especially that these are black characters. I love how the story is interwoven with different historical references. (S.C.G., 4-9-97) AA romances like yours should have been written years ago. It's what I've always wished someone would write (and publish!). Good charac- ters with depth and good story. Can't wait for your next one. (C.G., 3-25-97) This was a wonderful book. I am anxiously awaiting your next novel. This was a story that touches the very souls of people. (V.C., 3-25-97) Relentlessly worthy. All of Jenkins's heroes and heroines are so noble and well-meaning, I just can't relate to them. The research is excellent and the writing and plotting are good (if a little melodramatic at times), so I keep reading her books, but I wish they were more *fun*. (P.D., 3-21-97) Beverly, I was introduced to your books a year ago, by a friend who reads romance novels a great deal. I have not been the same since, your style of writing has change my entire opinion of "black romance". I have never embraced a book with such anticipation and excitement since reading James Baldwin or Ernest Gaines. I impaticiently look forward to your next romance novel. I must admit Galen is by far the most romantic male character to date. (M.M.G., 3-18-97)
