- My first Jo Beverley regency and I thought it was quite good. Piers was wonderful. There is something about a hero who flouts convention because he doesn't really care what society finds acceptable or not. Emily was strong yet vulnerable in a realistic sense (considering her father's treatment). I also enjoyed Beverley's use of humor and Piers quick and decisive resolve to marry Emily. I hate wish-washy men who can't decide if they're in love or not. Beverley delivers a good story and characters I cared about. She continues to be a favorite author for me. I look forward to reading more of her regencies (if I can find them). (K.G., 6-3-97)
This was a very enjoyable book, and one of Jo Beverly's better efforts. Take the time to read it, because most likely you'll enjoy it. (S.D., 5-18-97)
Having read all I can find of Jo Beverley's books, this is among the three I like the most, and I cannot bring myself to choose between them. She is my absolute favorite author. (K.H., 2-2-97)
I loved Piers as a gentle hero - so unusual! This is part of the Jo's Rogue series [actually, it's not -- CKP]
and some of the other titles are hard to find. (S.O., 5-21-96)
This is a charming book, my favorite by Beverley and one of the better "old-fashioned" (not much sex) romances. Only wish they had actually had a fox hunt--given Melton Mowbray setting, seems somewhat odd that they never did! (E.P., 5-19-96)
Beverley's characters are always intriguing, but this hero was exceptional. This is my favorite Beverley and one of my favorite Regencies. (C.B., 1-20-96) Not too bad, but doesn't read like it's set in Regency times. (R.H., 9-28-95)
My absolute favorite Regency. (C.K., 8-31-95)
