Reader comments:
I loved this book, also my favorite of the trilogy. The characters were so believable; I was so caught up in this story and worried about the ending that I consulted the encyclopedia to find out when I was halfway through the book. (J.H., 3-16-98) The characters stay in your mind long after the book is read. (V.T., 3-24-97) This is my favorite of an excellent trilogy--highly readable, well researched, with warm, interesting romance at the same time as there is exciting adventure, interesting politics, good setting and battle descriptions, etc. In fact, it's so good that it really should be labeled a "historical novel" (when compared to so-called "historical romances")--though it has plenty of romance in it and most fans of historical romances are bound to like it.
