- There is no one like AQ. Even though some people might not like her because of her writing style, I love it. All her books have thus far made me want to burst out laughing at some of the things the characters do. Keep em laughing, crying, and flipping through the pages. (L.W., 5-19-98)
I laughed thru the whole thing! Olympia was so independent and focused on everything! She did it all with such vigor! As with all Amanda's books, I loved it!! (I.T., 2-25-98)
I enjoyed the story line. I was surprised by the plot twists. (M.T., 4-21-97)
Deception was my first introduction to Amanda Quick. It is great if you just want to veg out on a rainy Sunday afternoon and forget about everything. You can't take books from this genre too seriously so just enjoy it!! (C.C., 4-16-97)
This is the first romance novel I've read. My wife reads quite a few so I bought this one for her. When she didn't have time to read it I picked it up.
I enjoyed the story and really admired Jared. I especially enjoyed people's reactions to his appearance and the fact that his demeanor was quite contrasting. (R.M., 4-8-97)
Dullsville--I couldn't bring myself to finish this predictable story. And so anachronistic! A good sex scene is fine. if it is worked into a believable plot, but I get very sick of so-called 19th-century characters behaving like singles in the early 1980's. (S.N., 4-5-97)
After having read "Mystique" and enjoying that very much, I was disappointed in "Deception." I felt there was too much sex for the sake of sex that did not contribute to the story. The words the author chose to describe the scenes where Olympia and Jared were intimate were trite and sterotypical of the romance genre. I actually skipped over these scenes after awhile. Overall, the story was interesting. I was disappointed by how often Quick used certain words to the point of excess (i.e. "siren", "passion). I would not recommend this book, although I would recommend the author in general. (T.D., 3-16-97)
"Deception" is one of my favorites.
I liked Olympia's character a lot. I usually
keep a lookout for Krentz's/Quick's books
because her females are written as strong interesting people and are
more than flimsy teenaged girls. I got truly
sick of reading about slight young wispy girly
wirlies getting off with blokes who are
12-15+ years older (what's wrong with
these "heroes" that they can't find anyone
closer to their age ? - probably 'cos noone
would want to be bossed around by them).
The krentz/quick heroines are not waiting
around for Mr hero to pounce on her.
She has her own life and usually intends
to keep up with her interests after the
hero arrives on the scene. keep these heroines
coming. (K.B., 3-4-97)
I think that all of Amanda Quick's novels are witty, humerous and a fun read. I used to work at a bookatore and recommended this and all of her novels to patrons. (V.V., 2-9-97)
I'm sorry but I just find Amanda Quick's books to be silly and contrived. Deception is no exception. If you've read one Amanda Quick novel, you've read them all. (C.A., 12-27-96)
I have just discovered Amanda Quick. Wow! I find I get no house work done when there is a Quick novel to read. I find myself more than ready for my husband to get home from work after a day of reading one of her novels. He's getting tired out! (J.G., 12-11-96)
I just love Amanda Quick books, no matter what i'll read it. (S.P., 12-10-96)
Amanda Quick's novels have great character development, this one included. Interesting characters and fun plots make for a great read. Keep up the good work, Amanda! (E.C., 12-7-96)
Amanda Quick can always be counted on for a fairly good read. Besides her masterful story-telling capabilities, she puts in a lot of "meat" under the surface that you have to pay close attention to if you are going to "get" it. That said, however, I must say that I wish I had read this book before reading her new one (and reviewing it for the Romance Reader) because her new one, Mischief, is very much like this one. I'd not have rated Mischief as highly had I realized that. But, as with all Amanda Quick books, they are quick-reading, sensual, and fun. (L.G., 11-22-96)
You can't miss with any of her books. All readers of historical
romance should read all of Amanda Quick. And Jayne Ann Krentz if you
like comtempory. (D.B., 11-14-96)
Excellent! One of the best books written by Amanda Quick (A.R., 6-17-96)
