Reader comments:
I think that it is safe to say that Julie Garwood has well earned her place in the hearts and minds of romance readers everywhere. She has given us a beautiful standard by which to measure others of the genre. I have never put down a Garwood work without experiencing that special joy that accompanies a tale well told. I recommend all of her books to those who are looking for an incomparable among authors. (S.E.P., 5-16-98) This book was great. I have read it several times, and I love it each time. (K.J., 4-20-98) I think The Bride is my all around favorite Garwood--only one I didn't like was The Guardian Angel, but on re-reading after Lions Lady I liked it much better. Jamie and Alec are wonderful. She is so funny--very brave and kind also. When Alec finds the hole in his wall and she wonders about the Tic in his cheek is hilarious. I think a romance feature Faith and Quinlan and Jamie's brother would also be good. The secondary characters in JG's books are so wonderful they almost beg for stories of their own. The Wedding was not a favorite for me because of the cruelty of the mother-in-law and how long she got a way with it--I guess I just liked the characters too much to have the witch causing them so much pain. But, I would still take Connor in a New York minute, even if he was a little dense. I hope Ms. Garwood continues to write stories of this same caliber. I'm honest to goodness hook with her books. So keep writing and I'll keep on reading. (T.L.I., 3-3-98) Julie GArwood is a Great author!!1 Ilove all her books! She has some really intriguing characters! (I.T., 2-25-98) I thought this book was wonderful! I have always loved a good romance novel, but this is the best one I have read. Julie Garwood is a gifted author. I have all her books and like them all. However The Bride is my favorite. Keep writing. I liked The Wedding too. I would like to see a book written about Faith and Quinlain. (L.H., 2-12-98) "The Bride" was my first J.G. and I haven't missed one since. I am a bookseller and it is my first suggestion to customers. I have never met anyone who didn't come back for more.I'm on my 9th copy, when I loan one of mine out, it continues to disappear. The hardbacks stay home so I'm secure there. Thanks for many enjoyable hours...long ago and far away. (P.B., 1-9-98) I am an avid reader of Julie Garwood and have read all her books and this book is by far one of my favorites! I wait anxiously for each one of her books to come out! Great escape reading! (T.M., 6-2-97) this book was great!! I read the wedding first and I had to go back to Alec's story!!! For the Roses movie was such a disappointment!!!What happened to Cole? He didn't die in the book and he was so cute!!! (C.F., 6-2-97) My all time favorite. I've read it several times. In fact I love all of Garwood's books. I work in a library and have recommended her to many of my patron's. (N.F., 5-30-97) I enjoyed this book a great deal. It is wonderful. I can read this book over and over. This is the best book of hers I have read so far. (D.H., 5-20-97) Loved the story! Enjoyed The Wedding also. Now just waiting for the story about Faith... (C.T., 5-17-97) I loved reading The Bride. I just finished reading The Wedding, and I enjoyed it just as much. Will you be writing a book about Quinlan and Faith? I hope so. I've read most of your books. Please continue to write and I will continue to buy, read and enjoy. Thank You. (M.E., 5-16-97) I love all of J.Garwood's books. She write in a fashion that makes the end of a hectic day more tolerable. I recently finished her new novel "The Wedding". That was just as good as the rest of her novels. Pleas don't stop here. Now you have to continue with the romance between Faith and Quinlan. I look forward to completing the series of "The Roses". So far it's been wonderful (M.H., 5-15-97) I first read the Wedding and had no idea I was supposed to read The Bride first until I read it. I told my friend about Julie Garwood and now we are both hooked The Bride remains my favorite (S.A., 5-13-97) THE FIRST BOOK I READ BY JULIE GARWOOD WAS "THE WEDDING" (WHEN HELL FREZZE OVER!!), AND THAT STILL REMAINS MY FAVORITE HISTORICAL ROMANCE. EVER SINCE THEN, I HAVE BEEN ON A QUEST TO READ EVERYTHING SHE HAS WRITTEN. I NOW HAVE READ ALL OF JULIE'S BOOKS, AND "THE BRIDE" REMAINS MY SECOND FAVORITE BOOK EVER. I JUST LOVE STRONG WOMAN WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY WANT, AND WON'T QUIT UNTIL THEY GET IT! LONG LIVE JAMIE JAMISON! (A.S., 5-8-97) It's a great book! I just finished The Wedding and enjoyed that just as much. I would like to know where I can purchase your older books. I have For the Roses which was also terrific. I have enjoyed every book of yours I have read and would like to read more of them. (J.L., 5-4-97) I absoulutely loved "The Bride". It was one of my favorties. The Wedding is just as awesome. I have read both over ten times. I hope that Julie Garwood writes a story about Quinlan and Brenna's sister Faith. I have all of Julie Garwood's books. (S.A., 4-26-97) I stumbled on The Bride and read that book. Have since read every single one of J.G.'s books. Waiting for more. Disappointed in the Hallmark movie. (W.F., 4-26-97) Dear Ms. Garwood, I'm glad that you came out with a sequel for this book - The Wedding. Though, I haven't read it yet (still waiting for it to go out on paperback) I know it'll be worth the wait. The Bride was a masterpiece. I just wish Mary's story could be told as well. I'm interested to know how her arranged marriage came along. Long live Julie Garwood !!!!! (A.R., 4-23-97) We have read or listened to almost all of your books and love them. We were excited to hear that Hallmark was making a movie from the book For the Roses. We were very disappointed at the movie it didn't do justice to the book, in our opinion. We will look forward to your next book. Sincerely, Gene & Lori Landers (G.&.L.L., 4-22-97) This was my first J.G. book, I stumbled upon it in a grocery store and was hooked. I have since bought, read and loved all of her other books. This is not only my favorite J.G. but my all time favoite romance novel!!!! (M.B., 4-21-97) Fantastic!!!! Loved it. I would read it again and again. The best of Garwood's books I've read!!!! (B.H., 4-17-97) I have every one of Julie Garwood's books, The Bride was the first one I acquired, The Secret, Honor's Splender, Saving Grace, and The Bride are my four favorites. I'm waiting for a sequal to The Secret. (J.S., 4-17-97) This was the first Garwood book that I picked up. Truthfully, I was bored & thought it looked okay. But once I started reading it, I could NOT put it down! After THE BRIDE, I found every book I could by Mrs. Garwood. There isn't one that I would not recommend to any one! I am really looking forward to her new trilogy coming out this summer, and you can bet, I'll try to be first in line to buy them May (in my opionion) she reign as queen of the romance novels for a long, long time!! (K.E., 4-16-97) One of the books that I treasure most. Beautiful. I read it often. You are among my 3 favorite romance authors. Thank you for writing what you write. Looking forward to seeing a new book from you. (X.H., 4-16-97) THE BRIDE WAS MY FIRST ROMANCE NOVEL AND I HAVE READ IT THREE TIMES SINCE THEN. I LOVED THE PART WHERE ALEC SAVES JAMIE FROM THE BURNING SHED! OHHH! THAT ALEC! HE CAN FORCE ME INTO MARRIAGE ANYTIME! (HIS BROTHER CONNOR WOULD SUFFICE AS WELL!) FROM AMY BOEHMAN 4-12-97 (A.B., 4-12-97) The best book that I've ever read, It's loving and it touched my heart. I always think of that story. ***** (E.B., 4-11-97) The Bride was the first Garwood book I read and I have every book she has written since. An excellent book and still my favorite after all these years (T.C., 4-11-97) First, I want to say how much I love reading anything that is Julie Garwood, especially The Bride. The Bride was the first book I read, and I loved the story. I was hooked and have read that story over and over again. One of my favorites, along with The Lion's Lady. Thanks for great stories, that make you feel good! (S.N., 4-9-97) I gave up reading romance novels when I went to college in 1977. Eight years ago my girlfriend sent me "The Bride" to read I left it on my book shelf for a couple of months then had to read that book because my friend wanted her book back. I read that book from start to finish in one day, I now own every book that Ms. Garwood has written. I have added countless others to Ms. Garwood's fan club by lending my copy of the Bride to them. It is very enjoyable to escape into her books for awhile and I always anticipate the release of her latest books. (M.P., 4-8-97) This is my all time favorite book. In fact I read it so many times that I had to purchase another copy because the pages kept falling out. I will be ever devoted to her books. (M.M., 4-5-97) Hilarious! A must read for anyone that loves romance and humor! (R.S., 4-4-97) I found The Bride to be so heart-warming that I have read it three times in a row! Alec Kincaid can force me into a marriage anytime! My favorite character is Connor from The Wedding. I wish I could meet a man like that! Thank you, Julie Garwood! (A.B., 4-3-97) Julie is one of my favorite writers the Bride is the ultimate, I love strong female characters. (P.K., 4-3-97) I've read 'The Bride'and Ms. Garwood's other books about 6 times or more. They're a great 'pick-me-up' when I feeling down. I'm eagerly looking forward to her three sequels to 'For The Roses' due out this summer--although, I didn't enjoy that book as much as those set in the old world. She is a wonderfully talented writer and storyteller. (L.P., 3-31-97) This book, just like all the rest of the books Julie writes are very good. I love reading all of her books. There has not been one I have not liked. Keep up the great job. (V.M., 3-25-97) i loved it. i am 15 it was my first romance book, i could not put it down. i read it in 2 days!!! can't stop reading julie garwoods books. it makes me wish i could live in the times of thr characters and have same kind of relationship as the characters. julie garwood is the best writter! all the people i lend one of your books to get hooked, just as i did! keep writting! eliza (E.C., 3-21-97) Excellent! (L.R., 3-20-97) Definitely a keeper! I read everything Julie writes. Great characters, wonderful, strong storyline and boy that Alec Kincaid! Every romance hero should be a Scottish laird! (K.H., 3-20-97) Ive read,The Wedding, and The Bride. This is the first time Ive read any of, J.G.'s books, you can bet I'll be reading many more. I loved Conner, But oh that Alex Kincade!! Thank For The Escape. (M.H., 3-17-97) I have been reading Historical Romance books for many years and I have never read one as good as this one. Ms. Garwood's writing made it possible for me to believe I was actually there witnessing all the fun. I have read "The Wedding" and liked it just as much but nothing can really top "The Bride" Please continue to write more stories based in Scotland! (B.H., 3-16-97) This was the first book that I bought. It was wonderful. Nobody can tell a story like Julie Garwood. I hope that she will make a sequel for "Saving Grace." I want to see Gabriel and Johanna again. They were brilliant. (M.L., 3-13-97) One of my most favorite Julie Garwood books. I can't wait for "The Wedding" to come out in paper back. I have reread it many times adddendum: I must tell you that my most favorite novel of all of Ms Garwoo"s books is "Guardian Angel" I fell in love with Gabriel myself and Lady Johanna is the perfect match for the Laird McBain. Please write a sequal. (C.H., 3-12-97) One of my most favorit Julie Garwood books. I can't wait for "The Wedding" to come out in paper back. I have reread it many times (C.H., 3-12-97) One of the Best books I've ever read. There are very few writers who can even compete with this storyteller. (C.J.R., 3-7-97) Julie Garwood is a master of romance writing and THE BRIDE is one of her best novels. Her light, engaging plot pulls you through the story and does not disappoint at the end. Strong characterizations will make you fall in love right along with Jamie and Alec. It was hard to say good-bye when the adventure was done. (M.E.A., 3-2-97) I ejoyed Ms. Garwoods book and the many others that I have read. I look forward to her next book. (A.D., 2-25-97) I just want to say that this is definitely the best book that I have read. This the fisrt book of Julie Garwoods that I read but I have read all her others and have them all and read them all about 13 times each. I just want to know when her next book will be coming out. I can't wait! (F.M., 2-21-97) i never read a romance novel until this one and now i am hooked. julie garwood brought my favorite time period to life with humor and charm. definately a re-read! i gave to my best friend and she couldn't put it down either!! (L.F., 2-17-97) I was so sad that it was over. I read the Wedding first and enjoyed reading the tale of Jamie and Alex. You are the most wonderful author. (J.S., 2-17-97) Excellent book, hilarious, made me laugh and cry, just as any good romance book should. Garwood is my favorite author, and i would recommend any of her books to anyone who likes to read! (R.A.H., 2-8-97) I Love all of her books but this one is my favorite. It was my first Julie Garwood, but definitely not my last. I now have all but two of her books and have at least read the two I do not have a copy of. This one, The Secret, and The Wedding are my top three picks. (J.C., 2-7-97) The Bride was my all time favorite: I laughed and I cried. I have read all of Julie Garwood's books but The Bride was by far the best. Thanks for giving me the chance to read it? (Y.D., 2-6-97) I read "The Bride" when it was released and have read it atleast 10 times since. Julie is the best storyteller. I have read everything she has written, and can't wait for the next book. All of my Garwood's are well read, and often. (B.N., 1-30-97) I really enjoyed this book. I really love it when books are written about Scotland and her families. Since I'm Scottish , I find that the books are accurate. Keep on writing them!!! When does the next book come out? (N.W., 1-28-97) I love Julie Garwoods books, in fact her book "The Gift" starting me reading romance. This book also rates as one of her best! (L.M., 1-18-97) I love all Garwoods books. While this is not my favorite, I am keeping the book. One thing you have mentioned is that Julie Garwood also writes under Emily Chase--for who, and what kind of books? [a young adult novel as part of The Girls of Canby Hall series -- C.P.] (M.H., 1-15-97) I especially liked the part where Jamie was so smart. Her husband had a lot to learn. Must Read!! I tell all my friends to read Julie Garwood. She is the best!! (D.H., 1-12-97) I LIKE HER BOOKS. BUT THERE IS ONE THING I AM DISAPPOINTED. GARWOOD DOES NOT REMEMBER HER OWN CHARACTERS. I REMEMBER SARA (FROM THE GIFT) HAD BROWN EYES IN 'THE GIFT' BUT IN 'CASTLES', HER EYES WERE BLUE. (W.Y.C.T., 1-11-97) The book was great, but then again all her books are great. (S.G., 1-7-97) This is the first book I read from Garwood. I have, since then, not only re-read it but have purchased all of her other books. Three scenes remain etched in my mind, the first when she (Jamie) wore black... The second when she was reminded in the woods she was covered with his plades...and the third when she explains that what she damages she does not repair... I now believe that every woman who is a bit down in the dumps does not need a shrink, but rather a good hair dresser and a Julie Garwood book. (I.M., 1-7-97) The Bride has been the most exciting novel that I have had the experience of reading. I received it as a gift and finished it the same day! I could not put it down. The highest of appreciation to Ms. Garwood for allowing me the opportunity to feel the passion and excitment she must have felt writing this masterpiece. (C.M., 12-26-96) This was by far the best book I have ever read in my life! Ms. Garwood makes you feel as though you are there in the story with the characters. I never felt so good after reading a book before. Thanks and please write some more just like "The Bride" (B.H., 12-15-96) I don't usually read romance novels, but my friend told me to read this one. I LOVE it! (K.M., 12-13-96) I love this book,it is sweet and funny, simply wonderful. Itold all my Jamaican friends about it and got them hooked. I told all my new friends about it and they are hooked. I am eagerly awaiting the wedding. Thanx Julie. (D.H., 12-6-96) This was the first book that I have read by Julie Garwood and I feel in love with it. The characters were great and the story was great. I recommend it to all my friends...EVERYONE should read this one! I have read it three times now and will probably read it again and again. Thanks Julie Garwood! (L.V., 11-27-96) The Bride is a GREAT book ...**** (4 stars!) I loved reading about Alec and Jamie ..they're love for each other.....I could not put it down from the moment i picked it up and read the first word...you have inspired me to do what i have dreamed of for so long "to be a writer" thank you so much ..... you are a great storyteller and after writing this I think i will read "The Bride" and "The Wedding" again. (S.C., 11-24-96) Like many others have said this was teh first rom, ance book I ever read and I am now hooked. Back home I have everyone of Julie's books except the Wedding. I have to wait for Christmas for that one. (E.B., 11-23-96) The Bride was the first Garwood novel I bought. I was promptly hooked. I have all her books and eagerly await her next book. She is one of my favorite authors. (E.T., 11-22-96) I LOVE everything about this book!! If you love this one...read the Wedding which is now in hardcover!!! A really WONDERFUL book. (A.F., 11-20-96) I loved it and was highly disappointed by the sequel "The Wedding" (M.A.G., 11-14-96) The Bride was the first Garwood book I read and I was hooked from the first page. I now continue to buy Garwoods books because the quality is exceptional. (P.H., 11-9-96) The story was absolutly fantastic. EVERYONE SHOULD READ IT!!! (A.H., 10-31-96) 5+, great book, makes me laugh just thinking about it... (E.S., 10-24-96) Every time I read a Garwood book, I have a great laugh. The Bride is one of my favorites. (Y.N., 10-18-96) This is the first book of Julie Garwood's that I had read,it was wonderful! since then I have read every one of her books. (P.G., 10-11-96) Bride was my first Julie Garwood book. After that I was hooked. Found all her books, bought them so I could read them over and over. (S.L., 10-5-96) I Love this book!! Ikeep it close to my bed and every night I read a bit more, or till Isee the clock and realise that its 2am. And I have school the next day... (J.G., 10-5-96) I loved this book! I urge everyone to read it immediately. (D.O., 10-4-96) All of Garwood's book are excellent especially if you adore medevil romance like I do. (S.M., 9-21-96) It was great! (L.H., 9-20-96) I LOVED this book. Julie Garwood is the greatest. I have read most of her books, and I loved each and every one of them. Her characters are always charming and witty. I have fallen a little in love with each of the hero's in her books. If you ask me, that means she's doing her job! Thank you Julie. (C.H.C., 9-19-96) It's funny how many people in the comments say this was their first romance. Mine too and still a keeper! Very funny book. I love Julie Garwood and this is one of her best (despite the somewhat silly anachronisms!) (E.C., 9-6-96) I've read all of Julie Garwood's books. Jamie and Sarah (The Gift) are my favorites! It coudn't have anything to do with my lack of a sense of direction! (J.W., 8-11-96) Reading the above comments is like reading my own thoughts. I had been strictly a contemporary romance reader until coming across The Bride. Needless to say, I became an instant Garwood fan. I have all her books, but this one is my favorite. I have read it over and over. (C.B., 8-5-96) I like all her books very much, but this one got me hooked. It was the first one I read. Garwood is a "must have author". (H.J., 7-25-96) I read this book once then I fell in love, and now I keep enjoying the novels which authored by Julie Garwood. Keep doing well like that !I'm your loyal fan! (J.L., 7-25-96) Every one of Ms. Garwood's books are thoroughly enjoyable. I read parts of them to my son and husband so that they too can have a laugh. The characters are so lively and loveable. I can't help but fall a little in love with the heroes. (A.G., 7-15-96) I read this book over and over again. Each time I find something very subtle that I didn't pick up on the first time. I love books like that!!! (T.J., 7-13-96) This is the best book by Garwood. The heroine is so spunky, smart and gutsy. My favorite scene is when she almost gave Alec a heart attack when she stood up on a horse and wondered what's all the fuss about? Also the joke re: the difference between a Scottish lass and English girl. You have to read it to find out! It is hilarious! (G.C., 7-13-96) I LIKED THE CHARACTERS - STRONG, AND FEISTY HEROINE, HANDSOME, NOBLE HERO. I'M NOT A BIG GARWOOD FAN, BUT THIS IS ONE OF HER BETTER NOVELS. THE PLOT HAD SUBSTANCE, NICE PACE. (E.L., 7-12-96) Absolutely loved this book! It was my first ever romance that I picked up in the US and I never stopped. Even though the books are not easy to get, I go to great lengths to buy her books!! (D.P., 7-11-96) The BEST!!! Julie is my favorite Romance novelist! I have read this book over and over and over! Can't wait for "The WEDDING!" (J.S., 7-8-96) Julie Garwood is the only author I will actually purchase a hard back book in. Her humor and wittiness are unsurpassible. The Bride is a suberb book and a must read!!! (A.Y., 7-1-96) Julie Garwood is the only author I will actually purchase a hard back book in. Her humor and wittiness are unsurpassible. The Bride is a suberb book and a must read!!! (A.Y., 7-1-96) This is a book that I read over and over and over again. There is not a book of Julie Garwood that I don't like. (B.D., 6-29-96) I loved this book! Garwood's heroines are such strong women and that is exactly what I look for in a good romance. (P.A., 6-25-96) Prince Charming was so good and this was so ZZZZ! Just a bunch of stupid dialog between some meaningless sex scenes. (C.B., 6-23-96) Although I usually don't like historicals (my favorites are contemporaries), so many people recommended this book that I had to read it. And I loved it! Very funny, sexy, fast moving. Wonderfully spunky heroine, who unintentionally creates problems but is redeemed in the end. Just great! (B.A., 6-5-96) ONE OF JULIE GARWOOD'S BEST BOOKS!!! (L.R., 6-4-96) Must Read!! (E.B., 5-29-96) The Bride was the first Julie Garwood book I had ever read. It was several years ago and it got me started! I love her books and have read them all! She's one of the best! (P.T., 5-29-96) My favorite Julie Garwood and she has written some great ones. RUN, don't walk to your bookstore and pick this one up!! (L.M., 5-21-96) I have read this book many, many times. It is truly my favorite romance book of all time. If I was stranded on a deserted island and could chose only one romance book, this is the book I would choose. I am counting the days until its sequel "The Wedding" comes out. Who are the main characters in the story? Will the characters from "The Bride" be a main part of the story? (P.B., 5-19-96) I KEEP READING THIS BOOK OVER AND OVER AND OVER. I'VE LOANED IT OUT TO OTHERS, AND THEY END UP READING MORE AND MORE JULIE GARWOOD. I PLAN ON BUYING ANOTHER COPY OF IT BECAUSE MINE HAS BEEN WORN OUT FROM "OVER USE". (R.A., 5-15-96) The first and still the best I have ever read of a romance novel. I have read all of Garwood's books and the Bride is still my favorite. (J.R., 5-14-96) One of my favorites by Garwood. Alec was such a hunk and, though he acted arrogantly, he truly tried to protect Jamie's sensitive feelings. Jamie was wonderful, too, a skilled equestrienne and archer. The scene where she dumped dirty soap water on two of Alec's men was hilarious, as was her attack with a club on one of Alec's male relatives who was getting fresh with her. The ending was just terrific. (D.N., 5-12-96) Great book! (J.J., 5-12-96)
