- This is one of my favorite books ever! It's a great "insider's" peek at romance writing: Sarah Bird had written several category romances before she turned to mainstream fiction. Romantic, intelligent, and funny, funny, funny! (V.S., 4-27-98)
This is one of my favorite books ever! The local (Austin, Texas) details are accurate and hilarious and the characters are real, fallible, and very, very funny. If you like books where the women are NOT underage, virginal Miss Americas, and the men are actually nice guys, you'll love this book. (V.S., 3-28-98)
Witty and wacky, this book made me laugh out loud when I read it about 5 years ago. There was a film adaptation that starred Shelly Long and Steve Guttenberg. It was sorely lacking. Read the book, skip the movie. (L.L., 5-30-97)
Not a typical romance at all but really well written with a wonderful
contemporary plot, a mysterious hero, and a heroine who shows
definite growth in the personal development area. It made me think
hard about what makes a good romantic love story which this was.
I loved it and want to read more by Bird, whether its her
'straight' fiction or any 'romance' fiction she may have written. (Y.P., 4-18-97)
Though THE BOYFRIEND SCHOOL is not purely a romance, most romance fans who enjoy humor and satire are bound to enjoy this novel, especially since much of the satire makes fun of people who make fun of romance novels! If contemporary satire's not your cup of tea, keep reading to get to the romance later in the book. (E.P., 3-14-96)
