Reader comments:
Very well written, believable, and quite romantic tale, with an attractive hero and well researched (though not in the least bit tedious) details contributing to an absorbing, fairly suspenseful plot. The author, though better known as a mystery writer usually writing as Dell Shannon, has some other highly readable historical novels (The Long Watch and The Scalpel and the Sword, for example) as well as a few too far densely researched for my tastes (The Proud Man), and tends to specialize in historical backdrops involving English political abuse of Irish, Scots, Welsh, etc. (including American colonies).
