Attendance and Preparation

Your success in this course and that of your peers depends on you attending and being prepared for classes, conferences, and meetings.  I go into this class that each student will attend and be prepared for class everyday; thus, everyone begins the term with an "A" for Attendance and Participation.

As I note in the Process for Portfolio Assignments 1-5 section, missing or not being prepared for a peer conference or a student-instructor conference could lower your Attendance and Preparation Grade.  Also, we will have a series of in class assignments, almost all of which will be connected to the Portfolio Assignment or the Newsletter Project.  These assignments cannot be made up outside of class, and if you miss more than one of these assignments, your Attendance and Participation grade will drop by 1/3rd grade for each assignment you miss after the first miss.

You also must be prepared for these in class assignments:  being prepared means that you must have chosen, at least tentatively, one of the options for a Portfolio Writing Assignment on the day we are scheduled to begin that assignment.  Also by that day, you must have read the articles from The Good Citizen, the course pack, and/or on line  relating to the option you plan to write on for the Portfolio Assignment.  Not being prepared will lower your Attendance and Preparation Grade by 1/3rd grade.

Finally, not meeting deadlines for the the Newsletter Project--either those in course schedule or those set by your group--will  lower your Attendance and Participation grade by 1/3rd-to-2/3rds grade.

Your Attendance and Preparation grade will contribute 10% of your final grade.
