St Florian Church, Hamtramck

The 1928 Austin Opus 1526 at St. Florian is a wonderful example of their work.  It is a three manual and pedal organ of 41 ranks.  The entire great was originally mostly enclosed, containing the second diapason (and a Tibia!), while a second larger first pair stood unenclosed.  It has had some additions and substitutions to its stoplist:  The Great Trumpet was moved to the choir, which along with a Larigot, took the place of the English Horn and French Horn.  The trumpet space was used for an air switch that ran new upper work added on new unit chests.   The Great and Swell chests are “walk-in” chests complete with an airlock!

The Holden Pipe Organ Company has now completed several phases of work to the instrument. This has included moving the trumpet (although not the original Tuba, but Austin nontheless) back to the Great. This was a challenging move because an novell air switch to run the added chests had been constructed over the Tuba toeboard. We first added a small peterson relay to replace the air switch, and revoiced the added 2' and mixture. We were then able to construct a new rack for the Trumpet. Additionally, the organist aquired a new 8' diapason for the Choir which had been moved to 4. The 4' remains for the moment since it is very useful for choir accompanament. A vintage French Horn was aquired, revoiced to the 10" windpressure of this instrument and placed in the Choir. Addionally, we re-gasketed all seven airlock and winchest doors on the organ.
