Siglind loves to read (especially outside her
immediate field of research), to hike and bike, and to contra-dance.
She treasures friendship and always finds time for those to whom she
feels close. The best of her friends is also her husband, philosopher
Gerhold Becker (whom she met during her master’s defense in philosophy
when he, then a young assistant professor at the University of Munich,
was her second examiner). Gerhold recently retired as Chair Professor
of Religion and Philosophy and Founding Director of the Centre for
Applied Ethics at Hong Kong Baptist University and as Chairman of the
Hong Kong government’s subcommittee on ethics. He is now a Regular
Visiting Professor of Philosophy and Ethics at Assumption University in
Bangkok, Thailand. But he travels occasionally to the United States,
Siglind regularly spends time in South Asia, and both meet for long
summer months in their lovely Black Forest home and do their
(respective and joint) research from there.
