Siglind loves to read (especially outside her immediate field of research), to hike and bike, and to contra-dance. She treasures friendship and always finds time for those to whom she feels close. The best of her friends is also her husband, philosopher Gerhold Becker (whom she met during her master’s defense in philosophy when he, then a young assistant professor at the University of Munich, was her second examiner). Gerhold retired earlier as Chair Professor of Religion and Philosophy and Founding Director of the Centre for Applied Ethics at Hong Kong Baptist University and as Chairman of the Hong Kong government’s subcommittee on ethics, and more recently as a Regular Visiting Professor of Philosophy and Ethics at Assumption University in Bangkok, Thailand. Thus after many years of communting between Michigan and South Asia, both now spend most of their time in their lovely Black Forest home and do their (respective and joint) research from there.
