The Thomas Cottage is available for weekly rental in August 2001. This outstanding property includes an architect-designed cottage and detached guesthouse on 8 very private, densely wooded acres. The cottage, located in the Town of Bremen, fronts Muscongus Sound on the Penaquid Peninsula in Mid-Coast Maine. It is 5 minutes by car from the quaint fishing village of Round Pond, 15 minutes from downtown Damariscotta, 45 minutes from shopping in Freeport, and 1 1/4 hours from Portland International Airport. Numerous antique shops, artists' galleries, and very good restaurants are available within 15 minutes' drive.

The cottage sits in a clearing on a wooded hillside, approximately 50 feet above the rocky shoreline. It looks southeasterly toward open ocean and easterly, across Muscungus Sound, to Hogg Island Audubon Nature Preserve. From the cottage, you can walk a wooded path 100 yards to the private dock and float, where you can fish, watch loons and seals and see lobstermen tending their traps. Walk along the rocky shoreline and you can gather mussels for dinner.

The 1,700 square-foot main house is designed with open floor-plan, cathedral ceiling, woodstove, two full baths, two bedrooms, and sleeping loft. The modern kitchen offers all necessary appliances, including dishwasher, garbage disposal, and micowave. It is a "cook's kitchen," and provides food processor, cookware, spices, lobster utensils, and cookbooks suitable for guests for whom cooking is not just a chore. The cottage also offers telephone, fax, and washer and dryer. In addition to the main cottage, guests have available a 700 square-foot, two-bedroom detached guesthouse, with full bath, kitchen, living room with woodstove, and elevated deck.

FEATURES OF COTTAGE AND GUESTHOUSE:

Cottage:

• Sleeps 6 people, with double beds in downstairs and upstairs bedrooms and a trundle bed (sleeps two) in upstairs sleeping loft.
• Full bath downstairs, and a three-quarter bath upstairs.
• Fully equipped kitchen.
• Living room with woodstove.
• Glass doors open onto south-facing deck.

Guesthouse:

• Sleeps 5 people, with a double bed in one bedrooms and a double and single in the other bedroom.
• Full bath.
• Living room with woodstove.
• Glass doors open onto east-facing deck.

Cottage and guesthouse: All linens are provided.

RENTAL RATES:

For 2001, weekly rental rates are as follows:

• Cottage and Guesthouse together: August 2001 -- $1,700.
• Guesthouse only: June, July, September, October -- $700.

The rental week runs from 2 PM Saturday until 10 AM the following Saturday.

Security deposit: $350, returned within 30 days of end of rental period.
