Fall 2008

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some responses to questions that have arisen during registration.  Demand for the course has been high.  The Department has raised enrollments and added a section to respond to this demand.  We hope to accommodate most students who wish to take this course.

Q.    What is the textbook?

A.  Mankiw, Macroeconomics.

Q.    Sections are full?  Can I still register?

A.    The Department raised caps on enrollments and added a section in response to high demand.  Once these places are taken, the course is at capacity.

Q.    Can I get an override?  Is there a waiting list?

A.    If you cannot register online, please come to the first lecture in September.  Any overrides will be given after the first class to students who attended the first class.

Q.    Can I switch sections?

A.    Once the sections are full, it is not possible to switch.  Honors students seeking an override for the honors section should see Professor Shapiro on the first day of class.

Q.    When else in Econ 402 offered?

A.    Econ 402 is offered fall, winter, and most summer semesters.

Q.    Do I need to take Econ 401 before Econ 402?

A.    It is recommended, though not required, to take Econ 402 after Econ 401.  Econ 402 builds on the general modeling skills taught on Econ 401.  Similarly, it is a good idea to fulfill the math requirements early in your course of study.  We do not use a lot of advanced math in Econ 402, but the analytic skills taught in math courses are very important for intermediate-level economics.
