need to be updated.
List what you consider the three most pressing technology needs in
your school.
- Replacing outdated, green screen Apples and adding Mac, giving the
Library access to On-Line or other info services, more than one liquid
crystal display.
- More computers, a trained staff person just in charge of computers
- Up to date On-Line computers
- More computers, or CD ROM's & more software
- Technology use with special needs students
- Network with other schools in district and beyond, e-mail, and computer
use in all classrooms
- Lack of up to date equipment
- Computer lab and required classes for students, people who are willing
to take a leadership role in that area, and training for staff members.
- Computers for kids in each classroom.
- computer lab, computers in class, overheads in each class, extend info.
searches to Jr. High
- Computer lab, networking classrooms, network lab
- More and updated computers, CD ROM's
- Training for teachers, technician that is not a teacher, computer lab,
software
- A coordinator, more equipment in each building, education of staff
- We need a computer lab with up-dated equipment, we need a larger lab,
Every teacher should have the same as everyone else.
- Better training of teachers in use of modern computers. We may get
1 hour of intro and no follow-ups or time on appropriate computer.
- Time available, continuous updates, expand the current technologies
- I don't know
- Computers, phones
- Time available, how to use certain programs, equipment, materials available
for class, updates
- more computers equipped for on-line services, more videos, phones
- restructuring schedule to make better use of available materials
- classroom computers
- Getting kids familiar with computers and what they can do for them.
- Computers in each classroom
- Access to network
- Network entire school, better (more availability) or modems
- Computers in classroom, computers available for student use during
the day. They are not available if classes are in session.
- Software, access, out of date equipment (money)
- Need for student access to computers (more labs available)
- Extend the network to all classrooms and make computers available to
all teachers
- Computers in every classroom (with network hook up), remedial software
for at-risk, software for foreign languages.
- A specialist in the building, Mini-labs in each room (3+ Macs), CD
ROM in each classroom, better printers (Stylewriters)
- Financial aspects of having technologies, training, technical support/in-servicing.
- TV, VCR and Computers - a and someone at out beckon-call when we are
in trouble.
Do you feel that technologies available within your school are appropriate
to your subject(s)? Please explain.
- No! It's difficult to say since I usually deal with small groups and
do not use some equipment but several reading programs were demonstrated
to us using a CD ROM but since there's only one CD ROM in our building
its not really available. (O)
- I'd like to see the disclavier apparatus in use in all three schools.
(O)
- Not sure what's out there! (N)
- Yes. (O)
- Improving. (O)
- Yes. (CO)
- No. Counseling - lots of programs "out there" but no funds
to purchase (N)
- The technologies available in my area are very limited, but are appropriate.
I do know my children are missing out on so much that other children have.
(N)
- Need computers for kids. (N)
- Yes. Most ordered by staff. (N)
- We need to update our computers and our use of computer systems. (N)
- Yes. (N)
- I use many different technologies to teach subject matter. (N)
- No - we need to be online so students can see what's available in the
"real world." (N)
- No. (N)
- Yes, but access is so limited as is time provided to use. (N)
- Tech lab still under acquisition (H)
- No. I feel math and science are not as easy to find as Grade 1-5 and
history-lit types. (H)
- Computers - need one in every classroom at least. (H)
- Certain things are, but don't always use or make available - not sure
how to use some. (H)
- Yes, but enhance number of computers (H)
- Yes. (H)
- Always need more in science. (H)
- Yes, but probably because I'm unaware of other options or possibilities.
(H)
- I don't know. (H)
- Yes. (H)
- Yes. My classes are built around technology. (H)
- Yes. (H)
- No. Need software for science. (H)
- Yes, at the current time. (H)
- Yes, sort of -- we have 2 computer labs. (H)
- Yes - but would like more software & CD ROMs (O)
- I'd like more direct instruction/interactive programs in reading for
low ability students. (O)
- We need our own videos on subjecs that we are covering.
Responses for this question were noted with the school of the respondent.
(O) denotes Oehrli Elementary, (N) denotes NBC Middle School, (H) denotes
Montague Hign School, and (CO) denotes the Central Office for the district.
Do you feel that MAPS is taking appropriate actions (within its financial
ability) regarding technology in the classroom? Please comment.
- Yes. With our building progran several technologies will become available
to us. Three cheers!!!
- Yes.
- That's the answer (underlining the "within its financial ability"
part of the question).
- Yes.
- Yes. We are moving toward a technology-literate school district.
- No. But resources must be reallocated to do more.
- That's always the hangup (Underlining "within its financial ability).
- Not at NBC
- MAPS is taking appropriate actions in the elementary and high school,
but NBC has been left out completely. I feel that we need to focus on technology
and direct key staff people in that direction. We need to hire a technology
person. Our whole emphasis may have to shift from one area (i.e. textbook
purchase) to technology.
- Need more technology for kids.
- Money and space is issue here at NBC. Attempts are there...
- High school and elementary appear to be getting more attention than
the middle school.
- Yes.
- No. I have worked on all types of computers. Everything I have learned
has been self taught. I do not know anything about programming or technical
work on computers or computer parts. Right now, I am supposed to be telecommunicating
with 7 other school, but I can't because I have no one that can help me
fix a problem with my modem and software. There is only so much a teacher
can do to fix a machine. Call in technicians can't fix the problem either.
Help!
- That makes it very difficult to answer (underlining "financial
ability")
- I feel that NBC has been completely ignored as far as technology goes.
There is no reason why an elementary school should have better facilities
than a middle school.
- Athletics and extracurricular expenditures including $ spent on video
production equipment for the few who use it are out of proportion to $
spent to upgrade existing hardware in classrooms. We could probably use
a technical advisor on staff.
- Yes.
- How would I know.
- Within financial ability, they are doing what they can.
- I believe they are making an attempt - but as in all of education,
there are never enough funds.
- Yes.
- Yes.
- Don't know.
- Yes.
- More needs to be done. Computers should be available in every classroom.
- Yes.
- Yes - of course - what is enough?
- Yes. I've been reluctant to use computers in math but am changing my
mind as I gain a little knowledge about what's available.
- I see it happening at the elementary and the high school, but lacking
at NBC
- Yes. Doing the best we can from teacher/tech. committee standpoint.
School needs to give more money to this area.
- Yes, I do (overall). In my area, foreign language - English, I need
software for French and remedial students in English 9
- We've made great strides at Oehrli but I'm not sure about the other
buildings.
- Not yet, but we are at a crossroads with the new building and I hope
to see more videos, computers, etc. in classrooms soon.
- Yes. You can only do just so much with limited $ - Montague has kept
us abreast of what is out there to use and supplied the system which waht
is financially appropriate.
List some of the more typical uses of technologies by students which
occur in your classroom.
