Accommodations for the Hume Conference
Note:  the following information has been compiled by  Garrett Barden who has generously offered to facilitate bookings.  Send him a message by clicking on his name.

Currency:  Irish notes and  coins are still in circulation, and everyday transactions are conducted in these, but the Irish pound is no longer traded internationally since the introduction of the Euro January 1, 1999.  The Irish pound was set permanently at 0.787564 to the Euro (or approximately 1.27 Euros).  Non-Euro currencies are now traded directly against the Euro and then translated into the old currencies.  The prices given below are in Irish pounds and assume a five-night stay.  Shorter stays may require a higher rate.  Except for Isaac's the prices include breakfast.

Note that generally the cost for two people per night in a double room is only slightly less expensive than for two people per night in two single rooms.  For example, in the Blarney Stone, which is the cheapest B&B on the list, the cost for two people in a double room is £38 per night while the cost for two people in two single rooms is £44.

Because July is an extremely busy month in Cork it would be wise to book soon.

There are, of course, other hotels and B&B's (as well as hostels) in Cork.  If you wish, you may simply tell  Garrett your preferences between B&B and hotel and your upper price limit.  In any case, there can be no guarantee that accommodation will be available in a particular B&B since these are small and quickly booked.

Bed & Breakfast

The Bed & Breakfast accommodation is usually a private house converted into a small hotel with a small number of bedrooms and few if any public rooms.  Service is generally by the owner who lives there.  The standard is generally good but simple and the breakfasts are usually both good and enormous--the traditional Irish breakfast that now no-one takes except when staying in a B&B.

Rooms are often small but usually en suite (that is, with associated lavatory and shower).
