153 Periodontal/Peri-implant Wound Healing Research -- Current Trends

Saturday, March 24, 2012: 8 a.m.-9:30 a.m.
Session Type: Symposium
1.5 CE hours
Theme: My research does not fit any of these themes.
Sponsored by: Implantology Research, Periodontal Research
Description: The success of periodontal/peri-implant tissue regeneration depends on wound healing outcome. Our knowledge in early phases of hard and soft tissue healing is very limited despite fast development observed in surgical regeneration techniques. The purpose of this symposium is to cover various factors specific for periodontal and/or peri-implant wound healing. Dr. Deschner's presentation will be on cellular response to a promising biomaterial (Enamel Matrix Derivative) in the presence/absence of biomechanical loading. Dr. Hasturk will describe various animal models used to study regeneration outcome. Dr. Giannobile will present recent data on wound repair in relation to osseointegration and Dr. Leblebicioglu will share clinical data on early phases of peri-implant wound healing.
Learning Objectives:
To explore various research tools to study periodontal/peri-implant early wound healing outcome.
To learn the similarities/differences in periodontal/peri-implant wound healing following regenerative procedures.
To discuss future trends in translational research to improve periodontal/peri-implant regeneration outcome.
