With the advances in adhesive technologies, today ceramic dental reconstructions that do not rely on mechanical retention could be adhered to dental tissues, increasing minimal invasive treatment options. Adhesion of resin based cements both to the ceramic materials of different nature and to the tooth substance is crucial for the longevity of such restorations. Successful adhesion of resin cements to either glassy matrix or oxide-based ceramics require good understanding of basic adhesion principles and application of adhesion protocols. Based on the current scientific knowledge, this lecture will focus on physico-chemical and clinical parameters that are essential to consider for long-term durability of bonded dental ceramics.
