417 Dental Treatment Strategies In Patients With Cleidocranial Dysplasia

Objective: This study was to develop a treatment strategy for young patients with cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) in an effort to provide effective treatment.

Introducation: Cleidocranial dysplasia is a hereditary congenital disorder due to haploinsufficiency caused by mutations in the Runx2 gene. Its clinical symptom was known with abnormal development of bones in the skull and collar area. The timing of diagnosis of CCD is of vital importance for the successful treatment. Therefore, the treatment strategies might be different according to the age of the young patients.

Method: The early intervention strategies for adolescent and children patients with CCD were summarized respectively by the presentation of the treatment process of four cases of CCD patients. Surgical exposure using the apically repositioned flap technique combined with orthodontic traction was used in the adolescent CCD patients. For children with CCD, only the simple surgical exposure was carried out in order to promote the incisors erupted.

Result: All the impacted maxillary incisors of the four CCD patients were successfully positioned into proper alignment either through the two stages of crown exposure and the elastic traction or simple surgical exposure.

Conclusion: For adolescent patients with CCD, combining the crown exposure surgery with light force orthodontic traction provides an effective approach. For children patients with CCD, when the most ideal time for initiation of treatment was not missed, simple surgical exposure was enough. The time for initiation of treatment is extremely important for CCD patients. The early timely intervention will reduce the difficulty for the later treatment.
