History of the "DMG President's Gavel"

The "DMG Gavel" is constructed of all the materials that were key to restorative dentistry in 1950.  The handle includes rings that are made from low copper dental amalgam, silicate cement, PMMA, dental porcelain, bakelite, Type III casting gold alloy, Ni-Cr alloy and many other popular products of the time.

Due to intense security restrictions for travel, it has become all but impossible to carry the gavel through airport security for use at meetings and official transfers to the incoming President.  DMG has shifted to a momento as a substitute.  Starting in Barcelona in 2010, the outgoing/ingoing President is presented with a framed picture of the gavel as a substitute.  Special thanks go to  Jeff Platt for his work in making this happen.
