NEIGHBORHOOD NIGHT OUT PARTY IN BROMLEY PARK
SUNDAY, AUGUST 25, 1996
6:00 P.M. UNTIL DARK

Come join your neighbors in Bromley Park. Learn to know your new
neighbors and touch base with those whom you have not seen for awhile! To
know your neighbor is to promote greater neighborhood awareness,
neighborhood unity, and thus greater neighborhood security. Come bring a
dish to pass and meet people. Suggestions for what to bring, in order to
generate variety (but of course if you wish to bring something else,
please do so):

BHA will supply meat and plates and such.

Aurora: desserts
Briarcliff: appetizers
Burlington, St. & Ct.: salads
Nixon: desserts
Prairie: salads
Renfrew: beverages
Sheffield: beverages

THANKS TO SO MANY NEIGHBORS
As we walk through Bromley it is always a pleasure to see the many
well-kept lawns and gardens. We thank all the neighbors who make the
neighborhood so nice. The party in the Park on August 25 is not only a
party dedicated to neighborhood awareness (in a crime prevention sense)
but also one at which we express appreciation to one another for a summer
well-spent.

SIGNAGE ON HURON PARKWAY

Neighbors whose homes back onto Huron Parkway have noted that the
UNo-thru trucksL signs that were once there have now been removed.
Perhaps they were moved to accommodate the new construction project at the
Total station; perhaps not. If you have comments about this observation,
you might want to make them to a BHA board member.

TRAFFIC PATTERNS
With the coming of the development of the First Martin parcel to
the west of Traverwood, we can apparently expect to see traffic lights
installed at Huron Parkway and Nixon, and at the intersection of Huron
Parkway with the street to the west of Nixon.

TREES
Apparently the tree pruning standards have changed in recent
years. Here is some information, obtained from Parks Department. In 1991
there was a large storm causing numerous power outages in territory
serviced by Detroit Edison. Prior to this event, the pruning standards
had been to remove tree limbs to form an 8 foot envelope around Edison
lines. Following the event, in response to public outcry, the envelope
was enlarged to 10 feet AND assertive pruning could result at any height
above that envelope (presumably to prevent limbs from falling on wires).
Over the past few years, there have apparently been a number of
refinements so that now assertive pruning is of horizontal limbs (outside
the envelope) and it is species-specific. Thus, from the latter, hardwood
trees do not have their crowns pruned but faster-growing softwood species,
such as ash trees, might still be subjected to the assertive pruning.
Apparently suckers/shoots that grow rapidly off the larger limbs are
thought to provide infill; thus, when pruning of these shoots occurs, the
tree skeleton is exposed and looks ungainly, for awhile. One form that
reaction to this policy might take is written; another is photographic.
Consider the alternatives; no doubt there are many.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

The acting head of the Bromley subnetwork of neighborhood watch is
Carrie Sercel. Let her know if you want to be a block captain or if there
is change in block captain status on your block.

BHA ELECTIONS

At the September BHA meeting, officers will be elected for the
forthcoming terms of office. Board members elect the officers. To date
there is one new volunteer (William E. Arlinghaus) to run for a board
seat. If you wish to run for the board, talk to a current board member.
Thanks to Sandy Arlinghaus for her service to BHA.
