BHA NEWSLETTER--JULY, 1995.

NATIONAL NEIGHBORHOOD NIGHT OUT
THEME:
GIVE NEIGHBORHOOD CRIME AND DRUGS A GOING AWAY PARTY

Date: Tuesday, August 1, 1995.
Time: 6 p.m. until dark
Place: Bromley Park

Each year Neighborhood Watch encouages neighborhoods across the
nation to say
good-bye to crime by holding a neighborhood event on a day designated
nationwide as
"National Neighborhood Night Out." The Ann Arbor Police Department's
Neighborhood Watch program participates actively in support of this idea; the
nationwide theme this year is "give neighborhood crime and drugs a going away
party." The idea is that communities that know each other, and that can
band together
in constructive effort (such as having an evening celebration in the
park), are safer
communities. Come join us in Bromley Park for an All-Bromley
neighborhood night
out.
Hot dogs will be provided; please also consider bringing a dish to
pass. To get a
somewhat balanced distribution, we propose the following strategy.

Bromley Homeowners Association--Hot dogs and rolls.
Aurora--desserts
Briarcliff--appetizers
Burlington St. & Ct.--salads
Nixon--desserts
Prairie--salads
Renfrew--beverages
Sheffield Ct.--hot dog condiments (ketchup, mustard, pickles, onions, or
whatever)

PICNICS AT DOLFINS POOL A BIG SUCCESS--MORE FUN COMING!
On Memorial Day and on each Friday during June thereafter, BHA and
Dolfins
hosted jointly a picnic and free swim for the entire Bromley
neighborhood. Watch the
big signs, one on Aurora just west of Briarcliff, and one near the pool, for
announcements of further events at Dolfins! In response to demand,
lessons may
become a possibility; watch for further information on the boards or call
the pool (note
correct number in this newsletter issue or in the Bromley Directory).

NEW STOP BARS
Toward the end of June new plastic stop bars (similar to older-style
painted stripes)
were installed by the city on a number of Bromley streets at
intersections with stop
signs.  Only the newly-paved roads (from three years ago) will have them;
stop bars
are expensive and it does not make sense to install them on roads that
are likely to be
ripped up. So...look for the possibility (nothing certain) of more new
roads over the
next few years. A thank you note was sent to the city.

THURSTON SCHOOL AND NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
by Mary Ann Gasiorek

Thurston School recently installed $42,000 worth of new playground
equipment.
Before the students were allowed to play on the new equipment, graffiti
was painted on
one structure and two play steering wheels were broken. Later another
piece was
broken off. These parts have been replaced. The Thurston PTO would like
to ask for
help from the Bromley Neighborhood Watch. If you see any suspicious
activity on the
playground equipment, especially after dark, please call the Ann Arbor
Police. The
Police Department is already aware of our concerns.

Editorial note: indeed, all Bromley residents should be alert to this
situation.
Remember, it is the tax dollars of all, not just those with children in
Thurston School,
that pay.

ADDITIONAL CITY-WIDE NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
The Police Department is hosting an additional city-wide
neighborhood night out in
conjunction with the Main Street and State Street Business Associations.
It is held in
conjunction with "Midnight Madness" so you can also do some shopping.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH NOTE
Please remember to be alert during summer months; remember to lock your
property when not in use (doors, car doors, bikes, and so forth). In a
recent
conversation with Officer Green of the Ann Arbor Police Department, she
wished to
encourage all of us not only to lock cars on driveways, but also to keep
automatic
garage door openers out of view when stored in cars. Have a safe summer!
