BHA NEWSLETTER--November, 1995.

WANTED: IDEAS FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES FOR
BROMLEY YOUTH.
     BHA is working at developing various community-oriented activities;
as we work,
please let us have input on ideas you might have as possible sources for
community
activities/service for young people. No idea is too outrageous to
consider, although
certainly we cannot promise that all will be implemented! Call any board
member with
ideas or to volunteer services!

DUES TIME
Where, for a mere $5.00 per year, can you get a free monthly
newsletter, tailored
to the needs of your community, a free directory arranged both by street
and by last
name, and an organization that serves as a strong advocate representing
neighborhood
interests in City Hall? Answer: the Bromley Homeowners' Association.
Please
remember that dues cover a period corresponding to the academic year--from
September to September. If you have not already done so, please remember
to send
your dues for September 1995 to September 1996 to Colleen Thurston,
Treasurer,
Bromley Homeowners' Association, 2819 Briarcliff, Ann Arbor, MI 48105, or
drop
off a check (made payable to Bromley Homeowners' Association), in the
drop-box on
her front porch. Return dues with attached form on last page, if it is
easy for you to do
so.

LETTERS RECEIVED:

From Mayor Ingrid Sheldon, to the Bromley Homeowners Association membership.

	Dear Association Members:
What a pleasant surprise it was to find in yesterday's mail a
"Certificate of
Appreciation" from your Association!
What the Ann Arbor Observer said of you is true -- you are an
extremely active
group who works hard to improve the quality of life in Ann Arbor. I am
honored to
have been recognized by such an organization. In turn, I would like to
extend my
appreciation to you for playing such an active role in our city. It is
after all our
citizens who make us what we are as a community.
Thank you again, both for the recognition and for your continuing
interest and
participation.

Letters to the Editor.
From Jane Immomen.
"Recently, a well-intentioned person cut some of the lower
branches on the
large green ash near the playground in Bromley Park. While certainly
this was done to
enhance the access to the area, it was done in a manner that could cause
lasting damage
to the tree. The City of Ann Arbor Forestry Division is responsible for
maintaining the
trees in our park, and are very responsive to requests for such work when
a tree's
branches hang too low. The staff of Forestry Division are very knowledgeable
professionals and do excellent tree work. Anyone having a concern about
a park tree
or a tree located on the street extensions should contact the Forestry
Division offfice at
994-27768, rather than undertaing to prune the tree themselves. These
trees make our
neighborhood a pleasant place to live, and they deserve the best care!"

From Mary Ann Gasiorek, written by Jody, concerning the second visit of Adele
Akouri and Alicia Green to the BHA/Orchard Hills/Maplewood area (first
was in early
October to BHA annual meeting).

"The Gang Awareness Seminar was a huge success, a real eye-opening
experience! The first step in effecting change is education, and
approximately 175-200
people showed up to listen to Adele Akouri and Alicia Green, of the Ann
Arbor police
department, explain that gangs may have the opportunity to take hold of our
community. We can deny that gangs are among us and a treat to our
children, or we
can become proactive and create a stronger neighborhood network to deter
these
negative behaviors and activitites and promote positive reward systems
and alternative
activities for you youth. Certainly food for though. For further
information or
updates, please contact: Adele Akouri 994-8775 or Alicia Green 994-8107.
Many thanks to all the people who helped with refreshments, flier
distributions,
newsletter inforamtion, and especially to the Ann Arbor police department
for a very
informative evening at Clague Middle School."
