State of Bromley, 1995.
The Ann Arbor Observer's City Guide 1995-1996 (p. 41) said about Bromley
that it
"boasts an extremely active home owners association."
What makes it possible for BHA to fit this description is the good work
done not only
by the BHA Board, but also by the many residents of Bromley who support the
neighborhood in diverse ways. As testimony to this fact, witness the
number of
Certificates of Appreciation distributed tonight to those who have been
helpful, in some
way--great or small--to BHA. It is the effort of so many, working
together for
neighborhood unity, that makes any success possible. BHA salutes the
following
individuals who have contributed to the welfare of our neighborhood
during the past
year--please let BHA know if any individuals have been inadvertently
omitted--a
problem with handing out certificates of appreciation, but nonetheless, a
risk worth
taking in order to thank (in some small measure) the individuals who have
been so
helpful.

a. Interview with first President of Dolfins Pool--move to determine
ownership of
pool--as related to home ownership within Bromley.
b. Conversation with John Swisher concerning removal of shrubbery
surrounding part
of the perimeter of the Plymouth Building. Apparently this action is a
response to
vandalism to cars in the lot by what he referred to as a group of
teen-age boys on roller
blades/skateboards. Shrubbery was removed to improve visibility of lot.
BHA offered
to be helpful in any way that it could; BHA initiated the contact simply
to find out why
shrubbery was being removed and only after questioning on this topic was
informed of
this other issue. We invited Swisher to stay in touch. Both he and his
representative
(suggested by Swisher) were invited to attend this meeting; both declined.
c. Attempted break-ins.
d. Guests for this evening.

On the merits of Community Service
Community service offers a "bonding experience" to the groups
that work hard
together to help others. There is a sense of fulfillment that comes from
working with
others to do something just because it is a nice thing, or the right
thing, to do. Money
cannot buy this feeling. All too often, though, those who do something
nice for no pay
are cast as "weak." Indeed, the situation is quite the contrary--it
takes great strength to
stand up and do something because it is nice, or right. Not only does
community
service offer a sense of togetherness; it also builds character. There
are numerous
opportunities for community service throughout the city; watch the BHA
Newsletter for
opportunities within Bromley--especially for those under 18 years.

BHA Elections Results.
BHA Board members Colleen Thurston, Joan Johnstone, and Irene
Stock will
continue for another two year term. BHA thanks Tushar Gadhia for his
service to his
neighborhood as a BHA Board member. Ron Sakowski is new on the Board. Four
continuing members are Sandy Arlinghaus, Elfriede Hofacker, Rajeev Batra, and
Howard Schafer. Officers for BHA were elected for the 1995/1996 year
(September to
September).  President: Sandy Arlinghaus; Vice-President:  Elfriede Hofacker;
Treasurer: Colleen Thurston; Secretary: TBA. Many thanks to Irene
Stock for her
hard work as Treasurer of BHA during this past year!

BHA--dues for 1995-1996.
Please remember to send your dues--$5.00 for the year (September to
September as per BHA By-Laws) to Colleen Thurston. The dues are used to
cover the
cost of the Newsletter--an expense of more than $600 per year. If you
appreciate the
Newsletter and the advocacy of having an active homeowners' association,
please
remember to pay your dues--a little from everyone makes a big difference
to the entire
neighborhood! Thanks in advance to all those who have been so
supportive in so
many ways over the years!
