BHA NEWSLETTER

JUNE, 1998

BHA NEEDS YOU!

This coming September it will once again be time to elect board members to serve BHA. Over the past two years, the main activity of BHA has been largely to keep a network intact should large problems arise. That has been done through the Newsletter, through Bromley Online, through archiving of numerous materials accumulated over the years, and through keeping a watch on activities in City Hall.

In the next several years, there appear to be many exciting changes on the horizon. These are outside Bromley but involve broad patterns surrounding us. So, having an active board will no doubt be a good idea.

Being a board member is an important civic duty and it is one that does not involve all that much time. The work can be quite interesting; thus, we suggest activities that board members seeking interesting community involvement might consider, in the articles below. Please don't feel limited or overwhelmed by these suggestions--they are there simply to pique curiosity! There are four meetings a year, one an open public meeting (more at the discretion of the board). BHA needs board members; please consider serving your neighborhood. If you wish to run for election, send an e-mail to 102264.2022@compuserve.com or call Sandy at 975-0246. At the September meeting, both current and recent (but not current) board members will be present to answer questions and be helpful in any way possible. Please come. Watch future newsletters for more specific information.

BROMLEY ONLINE

Bromley online is up and running. To date, there are 24 participating households. If you did not receive the recent message, and wish to join in, please e-mail 102264.2022@compuserve.com. E-mail is a swift and efficient way to share information. If you have a computer, but do not have e-mail, you might find a friend who can help you get started (perhaps by looking on the world wide web for various free e-mail packages). There might be an opportunity for a BHA board member (or other individual) to serve as the Bromley Online coordinator.

BROMLEY ONLINE ARCHIVES

Many of the BHA old Newsletters contain articles that may be of current or continuing interest. Old newsletters, as well as BHA By-Laws, Pool By-Laws, and other matters of interest are housed on the BHA website for your convenience. Bring BHA archives to your desktop: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~sarhaus/bha. Here too, there might be an opportunity for a BHA board member (or other) to serve as archive webmaster.

PLANNING AND THE NORTHEAST AREA

Over the next few years, information from City Hall suggests that we might look forward to seeing continuing development of parcels along Plymouth Road and of existing ones along Huron Parkway. Such activity can have the potential to add substantially to the tax base of the city, and when done in an environmentally-sensitive manner, to the well-being of nearby neighborhoods. We look to it as creating a win-win-win situation: for businesses-city-neighborhoods. Join with BHA, consider being a board member, to participate fully in these exciting times.

Also in the next year or so, the Northeast Area Plan is due for updating and revision. BHA will no doubt want to take an interest in this. Here again, there might be an opportunity for a BHA board member to participate in the development and implementation of the updated plan designed to reflect the numerous recent and forthcoming land use changes.

Some of you have sent e-mail concerning your view of traffic management at Plymouth and Prairie. Please retransmit it to 102264.2022@compuserve.com for references purposes. Also, if you wish to send in your thoughts on traffic issues (at Plymouth and Prairie or elsewhere), please do so.

Finally, ordinance revisions of various kinds are carried out on a continuing basis by the city. BHA tries to keep up with what is currently under review and notify interested parties when appropriate. Again, this is another opportunity for activity for a board member.

Letter received:

Lost at the Bromley Garage Sale: a pair of women's glasses in a gray glasses case. If you have found them, please contact Victor Gulko, 677-4007.

Charles--add the usual boxes and stuff as there is room.

There MAY be a paid advertisement coming, as well. I should know in the next couple of days.
