Report on Bromley Homeowners Association Meeting

After a number of efforts to schedule a meeting, a few of us managed to get together in November for a very productive meeting. There appear to be only a handful of internal issues, most of the issues that involve the Bromley Homeowners Association are those outside our neighborhood. On this front, the Bromley Homeowners Association has been very active over the past year (and more) and continues to participate in the various processes (when appropriate) that lead to changing land use and traffic patterns in the area around us. Virtually all of the discussion at the Bromley Homeowners Association meeting centered on the various external issues. Displays of suitable maps were available as were documents involving proposed plans. Discussions of meetings attended by the Bromley Homeowners Association outside of the neighborhood were also considered.

Right now, we have two large internal needs: both internal to the Bromley Homeowners Association rather than the neighborhood, directly, itself.

Bromley Homeowners Association needs more board members. The work is not hard. Bill does most of the watch-dogging and assertive activity on issues outside the neighborhood, and there have been few, if any, critical issues within the neighborhood. Of course, there is always room for much creative activity in both places.

Residents of Bromley need to pay the $5.00 per year Bromley Homeowners Association fee if Newsletters are to continue. The Newsletter is important in providing neighborhood unity, security, and family. Please remember to send in your $5.00 fee to Bill Arlinghaus, 2790 Briarcliff.

State of Bromley.

My objective as president has been to continue taking a positive approach with Ann Arbor’s infrastructure, and extending our sense of community. The Bromley Homeowners Association has initiated electronic linkages in our community, and created an electronic archive of the Bromley Homeowners Association’s activities on the World Wide Web. I have worked to increase our electronic presence on the Web, and would very much like to see our community electronically linked via e-mail. Toward that end, Charles Engle has been most cooperative in working on the Bromley Homeowners Association Newsletter using e-mail connections to me and to Sandy Arlinghaus. I have established an e-mail account at bromley@cyberspace.org, and would be happy to provide a free e-mail account for anyone in the community who wishes one. We hope to continue to publish a directory of homeowners, to which I would like to add e-mail addresses as part of the directory listing for those who wish it.

In addition, the Bromley Homeowners Association has worked with other neighborhood groups on matters involving development in the northeast area of Ann Arbor, and the Bromley Homeowners Association has voiced support where needed, and concern where appropriate, surrounding various development issues.

In the coming year, we might continue to build on the strong traditions on which Bromley is based; neighbors caring about neighbors, all within the general context of a fine, caring city.

Certificates of Appreciation issued.

As in the past, it is a pleasure to issue so many Certificates of Appreciation, reflective of the great interest people in Bromley have shown, and continue to show, in their community. Of course, it may well be the case that someone has been inadvertently overlooked; please be assured that the Bromley Homeowners Association wishes to rectify any errors. Report omissions to any board member, and a certificate will be issued along with an addendum in a forthcoming Newsletter. Appreciation is for all deeds, great or small. It is the sum that works well—when people set aside their differences and work together, in a constructive and cooperative manner, to build a better community. The Bromley Homeowners Association thus honors the following individuals:

Bill Arlinghaus, Rajeev Batra, Elfriede Hofacker, Joan Johnstone, Ron Sakowski, Howard Schafer, Irene Stock, Colleen Thurston.

Charles Engle, Joseph Gasiorek, Scott McConnell, Phil Zaret.

Dolfins pool board.

Carrie Sercel, head, Bromley Neighborhood Watch; and the entire Neighborhood Watch network (supply the Bromley Homeowners Association with names and certificates will be produced on demand).

Ray and Therese Anderson, the Beechlers, the Gasiorek family, Mary Ann Gasiorek, the Hewens, the McConnell family, the Parkers, Lillian Rogers, Stella Steiner.

Adele Akouri, AAPD; Ingrid Sheldon, Mayor; Jane Lumm, Council member; Karen Popek Hart, Planning Director; Parks Department, City of Ann Arbor; Sandy Arlinghaus.

Orchard Hills/Maplewood Homeowners Association; Stephen Rapundalo.

Those who did not pick up their certiÞcates at the November meeting may do so from the box on the front porch of 2790 Briarcliff (along with any earlier certificates not yet picked up, as well).
