The
above graph displays the data collected from survey of bus and motorcycle
users in Bangkok, with regards to the path they travel from their residence
to job (or school) location. The first letter in each path represents residential
zones (C = Central Business District; I = Inner Bangkok; O = Outer Bangkok
and P = Surrounding Provinces). The second letter represents job zones.

From
the graph, we can see that about 50% of the trips made by bus users are
INTRA-ZONE trips (C-C = 1%, I-I = 35%, O-O = 7% and P-P = 8%). For motorcycle
users, 55% of their trips are considered INTRA-ZONE.

The
similarities of travel paths made by bus users and motorcycle users partially
suggest that their trip distance does not differ significantly. However,
trips by bus seems to take 40% longer than motorcycle trips, as displayed
in the mean difference of the total travel time.

In
order to be more accurate, the three most travel paths (1) I-I, (2) O-O
and (3) I-O are investigated. The average travel time and distance are
calculated for each path.
