Grandmom Dick and Pop Pop

Is it weird that we call my Grandmom "Dick." Everyone always thinks so. The name has a meaning behind it. I bet that you thought it meant she was mean to people right? Well, here is the story. I'm not sure when, but I think it was after my parents got married, my Grandmom got a little...chunky. My dad started to call her Moby Dick. After the name got shortened, it stuck. I must admit, I have gotten teased a little about the speed-dial button on our phone labeled "The Dick." Anyways, my Grandmom was born on August 5, 1917, and my Pop Pop was born on October 23, 1908. He was 9 years older than her! They married on September 12, 1942. They lived together in Philly until my Pop Pop passed away on December 29, 1977...right before I was born, so I never got to meet him. My Grandmom continued to live in the house they first bought until last year when she moved into a "community living" apartment building. Throughout my childhood my Grandmom came to visit us about 2 weeks per year. Since she has gotten older she has stopped her visits. I still hold out the hope that she will come back again...I miss her visits!

Old pictures, huh? This is my Grandmom with my Pop Pop and her brother Charles. Charles on the right looks pretty cute! Here is my Grandmom and her father. This is one of the first pictures I have seen of my Grandmom when she was young. Here is my Grandmom with my Pop Pop. I'm not really sure what is going on with her hair but it must have been popular then! :)
Here is my Grandmom Dick now. She is standing in the middle of the picture.
This is a funny story in the Philly news about my Pop Pop, who is called Seeds instead of Seed.
