La Historia de mi Familia...
Flag of El Salvador
In this page I would like to provide you with some more detailed history about my family history. My parents, Maria A. Rivera and Jose A. Rivera, both arrived in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1960s after emigrating from El Salvador.  In brief, they arrived for personal and economic reasons, unlike the hundred of thousands of Salvadorans (including many of my family) who immigrated to the United States due to the prolonged Civil War.  Over the years, my family has continually grown, and I now have a large population of extended family members both in the California Bay Area and in El Salvador.  I have visited El Salvador approximately 5-6 times over the span of my lifetime, and on each trip I continue to learn and grow.  However, it was not until my undergrad studies that I started to understand the complex history of El Salvador, pre-dating European invasion and extending up to the present.  After acquiring this base of knowledge I was able to more fully understand the history of indigenous civilizations, nation building, emigration/migration, establishment of communities, and the importance of this small piece of land on the world stage.
