Clearly, Allen's Creek was a significant natural feature of the project site in the mid 1800s. The image at the left shows again the parcel divisions, Allen's Creek, the general topographical landform where the creek was situated, as well as street and building locations in 1869. The landform within which the creek is located is similar in shape to the area identified by City planners as the Allen's Creek floodplain. The image below is a Sanborn plat map dating to 1915. An increase in the number of subdivisions is evident since the mid 1800s. In addition, several streets have been extended across the southern portion of the project site, including what is Third Street today. Note that the aboveground Allen's Creek is noted on this map as well.
