CRITERION 3: PROPORTION OF STATE POPULATION UNDER 25
Another factor integral to anticipating land conflict is
the number of young persons proportionate to the total state
population. It is expected that, within a short timeframe,
these young persons will leave the home of their parents and
seek residence in another residence. As expected, the
western states have a large proportion of population under
25. It can be reasonably assumed that, within 10 years, at
least a quarter of the state's population will seek new
housing, exacerbating the already-rapid development in these
states. Over half of the upper quartile are western states. Utah
leads the nation in proportion of young persons, with almost
half its population under the age of 25.
