A NOTE ON INFORMATION USED FOR THIS PROJECT:

All data used for this project came from the United States Census Bureau. Specifically, the population estimates used to determine population between decennial censuses were the main data source. This site contains historic time series data for states and counties from 1970-present. Additionally, all population projections came from the Census Bureau, as well.

Several quotations appear in the text bodies contained herein that are not documented, especially the History section. I will update this information as time permits, but in the meantime please contact me for documentation. The section is essentially an excerpt from my undergraduate thesis for Claremont McKenna College.
