THE STUDENTS' CELL PAGE

CELL

An autonomous self-replicating unit that may constitute an organism or be a sub-unit of multicellular organisms in which individual cells may be more or less specialised for particular functions. All living organisms are composed of one or more cells.

ORGANELLES Description
Nucleus This is the control center of the cell.
Mitocondria This is the powerhouse of the cell, where energy is produced.
Endoplasmic Reticulum This transports proteins from the nucleus.
Golgi Apparatus This produces and packages protein.
Ribosomes Ribosomes are sites of protein production.
Lysosomes Lysomes are membrane-bound vesicles that are involved in intracellular digestion.
Vesicles & Vacules Vesicles & Vacules are membrane-bound sacs involved in the transport and storage of materials.
Microbodies Microbodies are membrane-bound organelles specialized as containers for metabolic reactions.

CELL STRUCTURE Description
Cell Membrane This surrounds the cell.
Cytoplasm This is the packaging of the cell.
