Daycroft Montessori School
100 E. Oakbrook
Ann Arbor, MI 48104
Phone: 734-930-0333
Description:
The foundation of preschool
and elementary education at Daycroft is traditional Montessori theory and
methods. While sharing the belief that children must be allowed to learn
at their own pace, it is also recognized that it is essential to remain
current with new theories so that we may bring frsh insights to the task
of nurturing and educating young children. At Daycroft, the teacher’s primary
objective is to carefully observe children to determine their individual
needs and to prepare the environment so that their developing goals may
be met. This "prepared environment" enables children to develop independently
and learn at their own pace. As children develop these various skills,
they also develop positive attitudes about learning which will benefit
their future learning years.
Daycroft wlcomes a multi-cultural
student body, composed of children from various nations, races, and religions.
Children are expected to learn about and be proud of their cultural identities,
which promotes self-respect and respect for others. As a result, the children
are able to flourish and learn from each other in an atmosphere that celebrates
their diversity. Their programs include Young Preschool (half day and full
day), A.M. and P.M. (half day) Preschool, Full Day Preschool, Kindergarten,
and Elementary Grades 1-5.
