The second most important city in Syria, after Damascus, which was first referenced in writing in the 20th century BCE in Hittite sources. It is located at 38°68'5'' E. and 40°12' N. In the Muslim era, it was a provincial city under the jurisdiction of Hims and fell into the hands of the Tulunids during their occupation of Syria.
