FILASTIN (al-Ramla)

Since the rise of Islam, the garrison city of al-Ramla had acted as the capital of the region of Filastin. Ahmad ibn Tulun had attempted his first moves into the region after the revolt of the then governor Amajur, but the revolt had ended before Tulun could organize his army. Filastin was the first Syrian territories conquered by the Tulunids and the one which they held onto the longest.
