Some html (generally marked at the end of the page) is produced
by a program called tth, which renders special symbols (greek
letters, square root signs, etc.) using symbol fonts. Windows
browsers (both Netscape and IE) generally have few problems.
Macintosh Netscape and IE require selection of "MacRoman" font.
Unix Netscape requires a small adaptation described at
http://hutchinson.belmont.ma.us/tth/Xfonts.html. The "Tth"
link at the bottom of such pages will take you to the tth
manual, which explains all this in detail in the section
"Browser Problems."
Here is a test: Does your browser render these
equations?
