Teaching

Education advances society, uplifts communities, and fosters individual growth and development. It is a particularly useful tool for developing resources within communities of color and other underprivileged groups. As a teacher, I have many goals and every student is equally important. However, my passion for teaching comes from the belief that diversity in education and in particular, diversity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), is vitally important to our society and our understanding of the world. Promoting diversity in the classroom, interdisciplinary approaches, accessibility of knowledge and application, and creative and critical independent thinking are the frameworks of my teaching philosophy

. Some of my current and future teaching interests are:

• Methodology for interdisciplinary course creation and assessment
• Incorpoating indigenous knowledge into STEM courses
• Developing interdisciplinary STEM curriculum with indigenous science inclusion for first and second year tribal college students
• Developing interdisciplinary STEM courses for first and second year undergraduate students at mainstream colleges and universities
• Creating outreach programs to K12 schools using computational and mathematical modeling to introduce students to (or expand upon student) knowledge of biological, chemical, physical, social and environmental topics
