Podcasts

In this set of exercises you’re going to use multiple podcast search technologies to attempt to locate podcasts related to either of your term projects. Remember, as you locate these podcasts, put a note in your Research Notes page about what you tried and what you found—that way you can follow it up later and integrate it into the appropriate place in your project.

  1. Yahoo Audio (Podcast) Search
  2. Get A Podcast
  3. PodShow
  4. Podcast Directory (be sure to use the categories, search, and tags tools)
  5. Podcast directory at Podcasting News
  6. Podcast Alley (be sure to use the “podcast genre” option on the left)
  7. Podfeed.Net (be sure to use the categories listed in a green box about 1/4 down the page)
  8. SearchForVideo
  9. See if you can use del.icio.us to uncover any relevant podcasts (podcast and podcasts)—don’t forget to search with ”+business” added to both of these plus any term related to either of your specific topics
  10. Search Everyzing to see if it can uncover any media related to your topics—be sure to use the “channel” to the right of the search box to narrow your search
  11. Search Google for business podcast directory (or whatever would be useful for your projects—just put “podcast” in a search with your search term and then try “podcast directory” with your search term; see what happens)
  12. Search the Internet Archive Audio Collection for any relevant information

Images

Again, in this section you should look for information related to your term projects. Think about creating a page that points to images related to the topic at hand—- you could have links that point to query results for each of these sites.

  1. Search Flickr using both full text and tags
  2. Search Google, Ask, Yahoo, PicSearch
  3. Search news sites at Google and Yahoo
  4. Also search the stock photo sites iStockPhoto and Getty Images—see if there seems to be any quality difference between these pay sites and the other sites.

Video

Finally, you might be shocked by this, but you should again think about how to incorporate video about your topics into your reports.

  1. Google Video (focusing on the advanced search with the ability to narrow down via genre)
  2. SearchForVideo (use the categories listed across the top)
  3. Yahoo Video
  4. AOL Video
  5. MP3.com Video Search and Directory
