Wireless Networking is attractive, cool, fun, etc. Unfortunately, because of bandwidth, distance, and security limitations in early versions of wireless networking, there are now a plethora of standards in place.

Security is always going to be an issue. Any time you transmit data over an open media, in view of all comers, any security measures designed will eventually be compromised by faster CPUs. Even worse is if the security algorithm is compromised by trying to fit it into slower, simpler (cheaper) hardware, or existing slower CPUs. (See section [S] WEP, WAP, Woo-Woo-Woo.)

[B] IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi) (2.5G hz spectrum) (10mbps)

Section B

802.11b is the first mobile wireless standard available for the mass market. As of 2004, it is available in many, many devices. The security system for 802.11b is WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy), which is fairly easily compromised on a busy network simply by inspecting packets (passively listening.)
