Vegetation at Big Bend

Here is are some pictures of some of the more interesting vegetation we observed in Big Bend. Unfortunately, I don't know what a lot of these plants are. So if anyone does, please e-mail me with the plant name and which picture if belongs to.

Here was a beautiful little wildflower that we found near the Hot Springs Trail:

Along the same trail, we also ran into this yellow wildflower:

Big Bend National Park had quite a few species of sotol plants growing in various locations. Here is a nice looking sotol that we saw off the Hot Springs trail:

And we all know that there are cacti in the desert. Big Bend was filled with quite a few different species, with the Opuntia being the most prevalent and diverse. Here Kat points out a particularly large bunch of prickly pear cactus. Some of us would later manage to get stuck be these cacti, with Alec taking the worst hit of a few large spines embedded under his skin. Although it may look beautiful, we quickly learned respect for this plant:

Big Bend is also home to a nice blue wildflower. We found several of the Big Bend bluebonnets growing up through the cracked soil of a dried wash near the banks of the Rio Grande:

Once again, if you have any more information about any of these plants, please let me know.
