As was said in the description of our new readungs course
"Russian Foodways", cuisine and dining traditions are a big part of Russian
culture. The language of food is understood and shared internationally,
and its vocabulary is often on the list of priorities to master when learning
a new language. The following links will acquaint you with that very useful
part of the Russian language, and provide a more complete understanding
of Russian culture.
Restaurant St. Petersburg - First class restaurant in St. Petersburg serving traditional "Imperial Table" Russian cuisine. This site of luxurious royal Russian dining is rich with illustrations and food descriptions. Russian Cuisine - This is a site with links to the restaurants of Moscow specializing in Russian cuisine. Great site with lots of food descriptions, maps, directions, and some menus. Cooking - The "mother lode" of information about Russian cooking - recipes, culinary news, cooking tips, diets, cuisine history, food magazines, chats, and links to other food related sites. A great place to browse and gear up on culinary and conversational language to prepare for Zastolye! Tasty Things - Tasty and daily recipes, vegetarian cuisine, and other food paraphernalia (example: Museum of Beer Labels). Tanya's Cookbook - A full on-line cookbook by food category, as well as some useful pages about household, family, medicine, etc. from a "Russian housewife" (a culture phenomena translated into English as "Busy-busy-working-girl" - judge for yourself by looking at her site!). Man Club - Recipes for novice chefs (primarily male in Russia) to provide a way of impressing one's date with a meal without losing your mind. A great site for all! Bakery Antonina - A downtown Moscow bakery advertising its products and services. Firm Machaon - A bakery of fine desserts from Yoshkar-Ola publishes its site with an illustrated catalog of its products.
