My Newest Tesla Coil

This is my newest version of a Tesla coil. I had a few problems with massive arching on the internal surface of the tube. But nothing that couldn't be fixed with some sand paper (a dremmel tool) and some round metal balls to put over the (sharp) exposed screws I used to attach the wires of the secondary.

The spiral coil at the bottom is made out of yardsticks and thick, uncoated copper wire. This allows me to tap my clip leads anywhere allong the coil to allow for tuning of the primary ciruit. I can not under-emphisize how importaint it is to tune the primary to the secondary.

Here is me pulling a sever inch arc from the top of the coil.

Mica cap work well for transferring lots of power, unfortunatly a single spark gap would not extinguish properly.

So I had to go to a multiple spark gap configuration. This works very well. This is a series of ball bearings superglued to a ceramic tile. The only drawback is if I run this for too long the balls get really hot and start to arisolize the glue.

Here is my multiple spark-gaps lit up.
