Our primary responsibility is to provide a healthy environment for the professional development for members of our research team.  We are also committed to satisfying the requirements of our sponsoring department as well as the larger University of Michigan committee.  We are responsible towards our funding agencies for fiscal responsibility and to the larger community for providing information in a timely and user friendly format.  Finally, we believe that the rapid development of technology needs to be followed by sincere efforts to commercialize the technology thereby providing the most desirable outcome.  The Mission Statement of the Cardiac Tissue Engineering Laboratory is defined with all of our responsibilities in mind and is aimed at satisfying every individual and organization associated with our research unit in any capacity.

Our Mission at the Cardiac Tissue Engineering Laboratory is to:

                        1.  Provide scientific mentorship and professional development opportunities for young investigators.

                        2.  Develop an atmosphere of collegial collaborative innovation within members of the laboratory.

                        3.  Promote efficiency and productivity of all members of our research team.

                        4.  Promoting healthy dynamics within members of our research team by encouraging teamwork and data sharing and ensuring an environment of self-respect and dignity.

                       5.   Understand and appreciate the human element of research and acknowledge personal commitments of all members of our research team.

                        6.  Promote technological advancement within the field of cardio-vascular tissue engineering.

                        7.  Demonstrate sound fiscal responsibility to our sponsoring department as well as to our external funding agencies.

                        8.  Generate diverse sources of extramural funding to enhance the growth and stability of the Cardiac Tissue Engineering Laboratory (CTEL).

                        9.  Develop new research collaboration with investigators at the University of MIchigan and other nationally recognized research institutions to promote research in the area of functional tissue engineering.

                        10.  Provide tissue engineering support to existing research initiatives thereby allowing rapid scientific and technological development in scientific disciplines outside the core expertise of our laboratory.

                        11.  Promote rapid commercialization opportunities for new technologies being developed within our laboratory by creating awareness to companies.

                        12.  Provide information to create public awareness of research activities within our laboratory.
