Each speaker has EIGHT minutes total. Keeping to the timetable is essential. Plan to spend no more than 7 minutes on the talk with time left for at least one question. The short amount of time means that you will have to be well prepared and practiced, and you will only have time to present the most important part of your paper.

For visual aids, plan on using overheads and chalk boards. There will be no slides of power point presentation. Start with an overhead or equivalent of the title of your talk and your name.

Your attendance is expected at all the talks, roll call will be taken, and absences will affect the final grade for this part of the course.

You will also be required to evaluate the talks of others. There will be three peer evaluators for each talk. The evaluations will be returned to the instructor and the quality of these will contribute to your overall grade for this part of the class. Each week there will be a small number of students (alternatives) who do not have an assigned evaluation task. If you are absolutely unable to be in class on a day you are required to be an evaluator, YOU are responsible for persuading one of the alternatives to swap places with you.
